Hey guys,
I've been driving otr for a decent size reefer company since September of 2014. Signed a lease (stupid, I already know). Finishing the lease successfully in December of 2015! After that I'm looking to go to a company that does flatbedding (looked at melton, ats) but I can't make up my mind and not set on one of those two just those are the only two I've got accepted to so far. My goal is to stay company for a couple years getting enough money and experience to transition to o/o buying the truck flatout. And hopefully one day be running equiptment and other oversize loads! That's my American dream.. I really don't wanna work for a company that has thousands of truck with each dm working a 50-60 fleet.. but I will if I have to. I'm 24, no wife or kids so I don't mind staying out months at a time (that's the only reason I've been making this lease work lol)
If anyone has had the same goals and successfully made it work please reach out.
Thanks,
happy truckin!
I want to drive flatbed

Melton would prob be your best bet. Go on their thread and talk with those guys
TylerDavid Thanks this. -
Melton is a stick and brick hauler. If you want to pull oversize, it's companies like Lonestar, Systems, Rinaudo and ATS.
Orangees, rank, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Whats the training for securing those types of loads like, do you gotta go out w/ a trainer learning how to secure all of the different types or do they show ya when your in their orientation and send ya out with a set of keys and a goodluck lol
-
Wow TripleSix, you aren't kidding. I heard of Lone Star Transportation before but really never looked. 120,000 lb loads let alone a picture of a Lone Star truck carrying a 25' wide load on their FaceBook page. I did not know of Systems Transport or Rinaudo Inc so thank you very much.

Yes, you'll go out with a trainer. You should also know you will be doing that in all types of foul weather too.
-
Too correct you terminology: I want to pull a flatbed or 'I want to be a real truck driver'

Lepton1 and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
heck, let him try. If he can drive a flatbed it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a truck.Michael91184, Ruthless and Oscar the KW Thank this.

Thx luwi,
that's actually a relief knowin that, I talked to melton about that and the recruiter told me they do a 3 day course on how to chain/strap/tarp, seems rushed...
I'm sure it's not too complicate but I don't wanna be the guy that loses his load cuz I didn't secure something correctly!
I've been out a almost a year solo and I hated the two months I had to share a truck with my trainer, great guy and all but 2 months in confined space with anyone will drive anybody crazy!
