    Drive hard,, to me it meant driving out all available hrs. Arrive early at a consig and sleep in the parking lot to be the first in line next day. Possibly getting service on break time instead of the middle of your work day if possible. Keeping dispatch updated ( no phone calls 4 times a day ) on availability and eta. Just little things that can affect the big picture.

    TMC isn't a bad company. Most of the crap you hear in truckstops and other places is just that, crap. I worked for them for almost 17 years. From May 1994, to Feb 2011. They lost some freight that used to be depended on to get me home in South Dakota. After a couple years struggling to get home, I left. Other than that I'd still be there. I miss the clean trucks, clean terminal, company hotel, and all the equipment you were issued to do the job. I miss a lot of other things too, that would take way to long to describe. And many of them I had no idea I'd miss until after I left. Yep, they tarp a lot. And yep, they have some rules to follow. But I've missed them almost daily, for various reasons since I left.

    Tomcat, Running hard in my experience is just giving the most you can of yourself legally. Don't hit every cracker Barrel or Longhorn steak house you see when you could be rolling down the road. Speaking of food. Be very careful of your eating habits. Other than a pack of Lance crackers etc. I never eat going down the road. I only eat the crackers if I feel I need to put something in me because I took off and skipped breakfast to get the wheels rolling. If you get bored and sometimes you will. And start scarfing down family sized bags of lays potato chips and cookies all day and everyday. One day your going to step on the scales at home and about faint when you see that you have gained 50 lbs. It happens believe me. I let it happen to me a couple times. Just do your job and don't hang out at truckstops wasting time. You and TMC will benefit from it on payday.

    Thank's Freebirdusa Great advice on the food . In fact My wife and I have been brainstorming creative food solutions. We are both Chef's and have owned several restaurants recently selling them off .She wants to spend more time with the Grand kids, as well do I ,but I'm a restless spirit adventurer kinda of guy that's why TMC , flatbedding in particularity is so attractive to me ,not only the driving which I love to do but the physical part as well as the physics involved in securing the loads,and if what their websight says is true ,the home time it's perfect for me .I'm starting this career kinda late in life at 57 so I'm trying to gather all the information I can. I'm working out more now so that I can show them I'm a perfect fit for them also . That Running Hard term I didn't understand until it was more clearly clarified I'm sure there will be lots more questions Thanks for the Feedback Also if anyone could chime in here that may have knowledge of their freight lines in SC . .

    Let me ask you this.

    At those rates would it not be better deliver 5 next day loads a week rather than 2-3 two-day runs?

    Longevity, or frequent use?

    Which in turn begs the question of 3PLs. Do you guys deal with any shippers who are solicited by TMC directly? Or does the bulk of your loads come from third parties?

    Seems to me the loads from direct customers should pay a little better.

    Actually, when I did it I never really viewed flatbed work as all that physical. Sure, you strap/tarp the load, and then you unstrap/untarp the load. Beyond that, it was only driving, and standing there twiddling my thumbs watching the guy on the forklift.

    And no 1:00 AM appointments at grocery warehouses. :)

    What I would be most afraid of were I in your position would the be the loads that are just ugly looking. I believe those are the ones TMC hauls for Lowes.
