I don't believe world travelers would agree
-
Noted and noted.
As far as to why I got it, college education wasn't exactly working out for me when I did get it at 21.
I think of driving the truck as that sort of job that will tide me over until I'm done checking off the growing book of other career options I don't want to venture into.
Getting back to the original topic, I don't think it's that difficult to see some parts of the world on a truck drivers salary.
Just forego the Harley Overratedsons, big pickups, and other flashy things and use money towards life experiences.
Then again, I'm part of that age group that doesn't really see the satisfaction in owning big ticket items.
I ride my bicycle back and forth to the yard, live in a small apartment, and enjoying the single life. -
I felt the same way as a kid, as I got older and had a family I realized them flashy things are no different than any other fun thing you spemd your cash on.
Ever thought of working on a freighter, like a ship?
Thats a hell of a way to travel and outfits like American President Lines will pay you more than any trucking job!Prof.Gringo and bentstrider83 Thank this. -
I have thought about getting trained on the mechanics side of things.
I know many ships use gas turbine and Diesel powerplants.
If I could find some place that offered education in that sort of thing while continuing to do this job in some sort of capacity, I feel it would lead to some sort of "engineers mate" position in that realm.
Only thing is I might have to move back towards a coastal city in order to get that training.
In that case, Portland OR it might be.
A tad less costlier than moving back to CA, and a whole host of vocational-inclined, community colleges.
Another thing I wish I did if I had known about it earlier in life was the Merchant Marine academy.
But I'm past their age cut-off.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
The SIU has no age cut-off for their apprentice program. You should look into that if you are wanting a job that will give you time off to travel. You'll work 2 to 3 months and then get off for a few months.bentstrider83 Thanks this.

Definitely looked at the page for this and while it does seem a bit on the military training side, I'm definitely keeping it under advisement.
Along with giving the railroad thing a shot again, this definitely seems to be the right avenue to go when it comes to "small investment/large return", career/job-wise. -
Safe to say you never have & never will visit a loved one in prison.
TSA aren't that bad; the stories are over-exaggerated. Incompetent at times & unreasonable but nothing like the myths. The Mariachi Thanks this. -
Not going to go through with it still.
Just the fact that any one can get on to that sort of job is a bit unsettling at most.
Then of course there's the fact that flights are never really "direct" to any one place at all.
And having to book flights well in advance of a trip if you want to save any money or be prepared to pay out the nose if you want to be spontaneous about it.
No passenger flying for me any time soon. -
Your choice.
We all have our right to a choice/opinion. I wish you a safe journey no matter what form of transportation is used.
