I've been with Landstar since last September. It's a grown up company, meaning they don't go around holding your hand. You are pretty much on your own running under their authority. It is your business and it is up to you to run it in a way that is profitable. Sometimes loads cancel, that's just the way business works. If you employ drivers then they should never be out a dime on a cancelled load, in fact it is up to you to make sure they get paid. It is your business and they rely on you for a living.
I do agree that Landstar isn't very helpful and it's up to you to make things happen. On the other side, it's up to you to keep your truck moving. I've had many loads cancel. Sometimes it was the agent's fault and sometimes the customer screwed up. Regardless of the reason, you get on the board find another load and get your truck moving. I also don't wait more than 30 minutes for a call back from an agent. This is my business and it's up to me to keep the truck rolling. Like I said, this is a big boy company.

I had a landstar load cancel on me before once I got to the shippers. They paid me $150.00. Drove about 70 miles one way from home.

Is there a Truck Ordered Not Used clause in your contract you signed with them? Should be a minimum few hundred bucks once your truck is dispatched, since this discourages a broker from finding a cheaper carrier while you are on your way to pick up a load and giving you $65.
spectacle13 and SheepDog Thank this. -
You are a "dispatcher" huh. Sounds to me like you have a guy pulling ( or attempting to) loads for Landstar as an outside carrier?? And there was no set TONU ?? Sounds to me like the problem is YOU Mr. Dispatcher.......and I'm no cheerleader for the big blue star.John Dewart and truckfam Thank this.

that a good thing because you made a rookie mistake always always let them know up front if the load cancel are you cancel 300 bucks dry run within 100 miles anything over 600 bucks dry run point blankLucar Thanks this.

Wow, thanks...........that made so much sense!! (sarcastic voice)John Dewart and truckfam Thank this.

Many will make that mistake and blame others. One always needs to be prepared for the worse, especially when you have driver's. Always be deligent because that's trucking.

Years ago I was leased with Landstar and got screwed by a broker who lied through his teeth. Landstar's position was that I needed to be careful which of THEIR brokers I dealt with. That was a broker named Mike out of Des Moines. He was lucky I didn't get a load near his office again after that.

You sound like a truck stop cb cowboy when you say crap like that. So here you are in a system where you own your own truck and can drive wherever you want and you book your own freight. Yet he's lucky because you had absolutely no possible way of getting out there because you never got a load out there?? Maybe he screwed you maybe he didn't, I don't know and I don't care but don't go spewing crap like you're some tough guy that was ready to rumble but dispatch #### blocked you.spyder7723, spectacle13, ChromeNut and 2 others Thank this.
