Hey everyone,
I'm starting to consider the Choice program. So far most of you seem to be happy with it from what I'm seeing here, so it's got me curious.
Here's my deal. I live near Detroit, and if I do this I'd prefer to run Midwest to Southwest & back. Kind of a triangle between Detroit, Dallas or Laredo, out to Cali and back. Does Schneider have good lanes to support this & roughly what does freight like that pay?
I don't have a truck yet, so I'm also considering lease options. Can you get a decent deal going thru SLI? I'd consider that, but I'm really leaning toward a full-maintenance lease thru Paccar, Ryder or Penske. I would like to avoid actually buying a truck for several reasons. Any thoughts on this idea?
Last, I know the NE has high dollar freight, but I wouldn't go up there if you paid me $10/mile. Just not worth the hassle to me but more power to anyone who likes it. Not for me.
Thanks!
Considering Schneider IC Choice program & looking for info

Yes SNI has strong lanes in the Midwest..you can pretty much run where you want out of there.
Rates will vary depending on where you're going so that's kind of hard to calculate.
You shouldn't have a problem bringing in the revenue.
As for the lease factor..it's better tax wise than buying..as everything is deductible.
Do your homework on that part of it.
As for Schneider Finance..they're competitive when it comes to pricing the truck.
And they come with a apu..which keeps maintenance down and saves on fuel.
You'll have a managed maintenance account..which can be a pain at times but really shouldn't be a deal breaker.
I have a 2015 KW T680..Paccar MX-13,13speed..couldn't be happier.freightwipper and TJTexas Thank this. -
Yeah, I'd rather not lease thru SLI if I can avoid it. Too much like buying my job, no offense. I just don't feel good about leasing the truck from the people I'm working for.

Still, if the numbers work I may do it because Choice lets you control your miles, not them.

Yeah I'm driving a 2014 680 now, same setup. Great truck, just wish it wasnt a tag axle. (Extra points if you can guess who I work for LOL)

1: If you were working for a company that controls your work aspect, dispatches you etc etc.. I would agree but here you control pretty much everything you do NOT the company. No way someone can make you sit and say "there's no loads" like other companies.
2: Factor in you can do a 1 year lease from Schneider finance and even with zero down. That way you're not locking money up and locking yourself into something long term if you're unhappy and etc.
Where else would someone offer a 1 year lease with zero down?
Just a thought.
As far as your first questions, there's lots of freight all over the midwest, south and east and rates are fine.
Trying to get to Cali and back is rare and when you can generally the rates wouldn't be good.TJTexas Thanks this. -
1 yr and zero down??? Hmmmmm..... interesting
-
Yes that is an option but only Freightliners go on that option.
I heard they're offering new Shakers zero down.. dunno if that's true though.
When I joined it was $1k up front for a new one on a one year lease ($0 for a used one) but gets a $1,600 bonus from Schneider leasing on with a new truck.
I think they're still doing no truck payment for two weeks when you get started.Last edited: Jul 18, 2015

Rates going that far west suck. Except for loads to Denver, where you can't get out.
You lease the truck from SFI, and lease it on to SNI. Two separate companies. Fixed expenses are at least a grand a week.
Midwest is getting packed with ICs, and freight volume is not increasing.freightwipper Thanks this. -
Will be tying up the financial with SNI on Monday on a new lease. I had them send me the spec sheet on the Freightliners but I can't find the file now. Basically it is the same set up as a company truck. It does not have an APU but the battery pack system (10 hours). No sun visor, no bunk window, seemed like a basic Schneider spec Freightliner. I did not lease a Freightliner as I have had my share of them as a company driver for several companies. Ask your SNI contact to send you the spec sheet.
