Seven months if running short miles of 10,000 a month.
I think 10,000 per month is a safe number for almost any OTR company. -
Yeah, the miles are nothing....it's just the idea of paying them $3000 if they decide to fire you that doesn't sound right. Maybe there's more to it that we're not hearing??

Termination from a driving position is extremely rare unless the Driver effed up on some Safety issues.
Granted, there are other issues that a company could terminate for, but it's far & few between.
Essentially, a company isn't going to terminate unless the Driver REALLY screwed the pooch in some degree, or another. -
We had a guy at our school who was the nicest guy and everybody liked. He couldn't back up a truck to save his life and ended up having to drop out of the community college with a refund and a chance to retake the course at a later date. I would hate for someone like him to have to pay $3,000 to some billion dollar corporation. Roehl is generally regarded as a decent company by the people I've talked to who have driven for them, but something like this makes them look like the horse's ###. If I were them and it's as infrequent as you say, I'd put an end to this petty policy.

You're confusing CDL Class "A" schooling and training with actual employment. Obtaining a CDL Class "A" license IS through a certified school and ought to be paid in full for obtaining the license.
If he obtained CDL Class A licensure through Roehl, why would he not be financially responsible for his schooling? -
No, she or he said they already have their CDL.....it sounds like they're charging to train students to deliver their freight......but at this point I'm not really sure what it's for. You would be right if they were running a school, but I think the name would be different if that was the case.
-
Then, plain & simple...... if he/she doesn't wish to sign the contract of employment- they are more than welcome to locate employment at another company.
But, yes - this is standard procedure in most, if not all companies that offer an on-the-job training program. -
Bingo..........I wouldn't sign that.
