Bought a truck, bout to lease it on with my company and I have the Michigan title for it. Wanting to know if I am going to be required to pay sales tax at SOS. I bought it from a private seller and he says you dont pay tax on commercial vehicles, not sure if he is right.
Is sales tax required on tractor purchase in MICHIGAN?

you need dot# when you get your registration that way you don't pay tax
-
I'm leasing on with a company so just give them the DOT number? The company doing my IRP plate, but I have to do the title transfer from prev owner to myself
-
Just go there, tell them you are going to lease it to an interstate company doing interstate work and they will ask you for the contract or some verification sheet that indicates you have a valid lease with the company and then you won't get to pay the use tax, but when you get your plates, you will need that sheet too. On the other hand I have just said it was for interstate use and they waived the use tax, it is a crap shoot with michigan because a lot of those people are just dumb,

Thank you for your help, I dont have a contract yet since the company is requiring me to bring the title in to them, so I have to visit SOS first to get the title. I'll bring all the info I have just in case, I'm currently a company driver for them. Seems theres alot of road bumps along the way

From the mouth of babes. You are going to see a lot of road bumps. Good luck and keep smiling.

No sale tax in Michigan all you do is tell the SOS it " rolling stock" that is it. It really simple .
