I took a 90% pay cut to join the teamsters,
but I was working in the ND oilfields before, so the work and rates aren't even comparable. This was due to my divorce and custody battle though. Depending on where you live it might be worthwhile.

I agree with everything everybody mentioned, the good and the bad. The good is that union jobs usually pay more. I was a teamster when I worked for Hostess brands. Made 80k a year and more, before they went bankrupt and closed down. I enjoyed being a union member, but there is a lot of childish backstabbing, and even though Hostess said it was the union that caused the backruptcy, it was corporate greed that really caused the shutdown. I must admit, the union protected me plenty of times from harassment and and prevented supervisors from forcing you to do things that you didn't want to do. But on the bad side, you couldn't get rid of the lazy, incompetent drivers that didn't want to do anything, which I guess the teachers union have that issue as well as they can't get rid of the bad teachers because they're in a union. Like most of the people mentioned, there's good and bad, but for me, it was a good experience.

It's a simple question..... 3.50 per hour in a pension you might get of 1.25 in a 401k that you control.

Really don't understand the need to bash the Teamsters. Like hating on someone that drives a Porsche or Mercedes. If you don't care for them, don't drive them. Nobody is forcing you to apply and work for a union company. The company I work for offered all it's employees a substantial raise if we gave the Teamsters the boot, only one person was for it and he conviently enough was related to the owner. Ha
MidwestResident, Toomanybikes, Pintlehook and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think teamsters are ok I just don't trust anyone handling a pension. Nothing personal against them I've just seen to many folks get screwed.
MidwestResident Thanks this. -
In my neck of the woods the teamster companies are the only reason for non union companies to offer decent wages and benefits. If it wasn't for that all these "KAG" like carriers would run drivers for peanuts. Just saying
MidwestResident, Toomanybikes and slim shady Thank this. -
