Hi everyone, I am a new driver for GO Express out of Omaha, NE my hometown. Since I am new to this company, I cannot comment on the past concerning how they treated drivers and their equipment. What I am going to do is tell what type of company they are today, and my day to day experience is with them as a driver, to the best of my ability.
Today was my second day of orientation, first day was typical of most companies, there were three of us, we had to go get our drug screen and physicals done first. We then went back to the office, and proceeded to watch some vids on safety ect. Then they took us out to lunch, we then headed back to the office, did some paper work, took our road tests, and then were released to go home (for me) the motel for the other two.
Today we watched more vids, filled out more paperwork, was able to get a look at our trucks, filled out more paperwork, met our dispatcher, then we were released to go home. Tomorrow the plan is to bring our stuff and load our trucks up, take a tour of the beef plant we will be hauling out of, and maybe get our load assignments and head out. Overall very positive, equiptment is great, all '14 and '15 Cascadias and Volvos, and they are getting some new Cascadias with the auto trans. which is what I want if it is a 6x4.
Before I came here I too had read all the bad stuff on them from yesteryear, but they have been making some changes over the last year with new personnel with the focus being on the driver and the equipment. They are giving us some great insurance: health, dental, vision, a wellness program, a free clinic program, once a month meat sale, so a lot of good things are going on over there. Very friendly on the dispatch, sometimes we may get to choose loads if that is available, no N. E. if you don't want it, you can go OTR or Regional, so a lot of good things are going on here.
Till next time.

Where did you read the "Bad Stuff" on them? I have never (personally) seen any "Bad Stuff" on GO Express.

Day one pretty simple, loaded up truck, everyone was treated to pizza, then we were given a choice of were we wanted to go, and since our plant was shut down for maintenance, we were given some shorties to run. Mine was a Schuyler NE to Knoxville IA, got to Schuyler and of course, the load wasn't ready, so I dropped empty, parked at the scale house, and took a nap. About 2230 my load was ready, grabbed it and off I went to Knoxville.
I wanted one of the Volvo's they have, but none were available so I ended up with a Cascadia, very nice truck, clean, nice ride, good power, and the trailers all pull easy, getting some new one's in, and new trucks.TheJrodTest Thanks this. -
Home now for a 10 hour break.

I take it you are running hard after your 10 hour break at home, since we haven't heard from you since? Everything going o.k. yet?
Csnemrod Thanks this. -
Actually I have the weekend off, leave out Sunday for Chicago.
We are supposed to get some new auto's in soon, some Cascadia's and some Volvo's, I'm hoping to get into one of the new Volvos when they come in, but for now my truck is running just fine. -
Now; you live in the area...and you said they may give you a choice on loads (I know that is not gonna happen every time)...did you choose Chicago? Or was it 'luck of the draw' this time around?

Being a company driver, if you get a choice of loads you are in a better situation than most company drivers because most companies don't give you a choice, even if you are a lease operator. I can run midwest, which is what I do now, I can run Cali, if they have the loads, I can run East Coast, you don't get that with a lot of companies. But since I have been to all 48, I just like to run the midwest, and I might start running some of their Cali loads too.
Most weekends home for midwest drivers, and 7-10 days for OTR drivers, but to answer your question, I was asked if I wanted to run to Chicago, I said yes. -
that load ready in the middle of the night crap sucks, I will keep my stepdeck

THIS is what I was asking about...wasn't trying to be a smart Alec, just got a bit confused.
You were given a choice that particular day because the plant was shut down, or is that a normal dispatch procedure. Some companies do that for their company drivers in a situation such as GOE pulling their own loads "in-house".
