1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

As of June 6 2008 Freightliner truck plant cleveland nc will lay off 1400 people unfortunately I am one of those 1400. I am a mechanic and have been most of my life,I am hoping to find a good company to work for in nc although I'd really like to open up my own shop ' cause I've heard alot of shops in this area like to rip off truck drivers and its hard enough to make it as it is.Thank you to all those drivers out there who make this world go 'round may god bless and protect you out on the iron grid of life!

Hey Wrench sorry to hear of the upcoming loss of jobs there. I went through the same thing out here at the Portland plant. More and more jobs heading south these days, what a shame. Hopefully you will do well, everyplace always needs a good mechanic.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. You should be able to find a diesel mechanic's job. They are in demand, here in Texas. Speaking of which, I hauled frame rails from laredo TX to your plant in cleveland NC.

Too bad you aren't in TN or we're not in your area because we'll be looking for a driver here locally soon. I don't know if I should post a thread here or not.
Yes, some of those places will rip you off. That happened to us not long ago.

I would think that a Freightliner-trained mechanic would be sought after by the local service shops. With all the traffic on the I-77 and 85 corridor's there have to be shops open that are Freightliner 'cert'ed' to do warranty work requiring a Freightliner-trained techie'. If you know anyone in the front-office's warranty or service sales sections they might be able to steer you to one of them. A factory trained mechanic is a very valuable asset to any shop, especially when the trucks are being run longer and harder (see the latest TruckPaper issue; lots of over 350k mile Freighter's out there needing loving and the golden touch).

I would think Ryder and Penske would like to hear from you. Good luck and hopefully you can find a job.
