Just for your 411, a Red light violation is 2 points if I'm not mistaken. I had one dismissed last year. I mean, I ran the light, I was bobtailing and the light change red just as I enter the intersection. In court, I approached the LEO before my case was to heard. I asked the LEO if he could amend the violation to a non moving violation. He said yes and he will let the judge know when my name is called in court. Well, to shorten the story, when my name was called, the judge said "CASE DISMISSED". In the OP's case, hire a traffic attorney or do your homework trying to beat it, or just pay the fine and add the 2 points to your DAC (OUCH)....I know what I would do or should I say, what I did. Goodluck

Since it was first ticket in five years I paid it. South Dakota doesn't have a point system on their licenses. Also, nothing on the CSA because it was a city cop. I don't have to worry about DAC.

That is new to me and never heard of such thing. Your drivers license is federal with a class A. A moving violation is a moving violation period. The only thing that you say that makes any sense is if the LEO wrote it up as non moving violation in other words, a "Fix It ticket". But how can he write it if your ran a red light ? And what difference does it make if you had not gotten a violation in the last 5 years ? Just saying......something is not right here.

South Dakota doesn't have a points system, it's just how it is. Since 1998 I have one speeding ticket and that was in 2010. So if you run my mvr it will show only 2 tickets 17 years. So I'm not that worried about my driving record. It was a city cop, so no inspection report, so no CSA points. I've already spoken with my insurance company and because of my driving record I don't have to worry about an increase. So I chose to pay it, a little over $100, instead of giving up $1-2k to go to Liberal for the day.

Your ticket has to have your USDOT # on it or it does not get reported end of story. There is no way to report it with out that number how can they. It will go on your state license but not CSA or DAC. Under stand all states have different laws and points systems.
Long FLD Thanks this.
