I had a Sony Handicam before the GoPro. It was kind of a pain to use. Lots of hoops to go through to get the video off the cam then onto a laptop then convert then crop then edit then upload.

The GoPro records in 20 minute chunks. Each one is a separate clip. You can download the one you want or their app will put them all together. I have a 64gig card in mine so it records for 14 hours then overwrites the oldest. If your riding down the road and something happens just write down what time it is then grab that clip from the 20 minute clip. Their app is real easy to use then just click to upload to YouTube.

The GoPro also has an app to put on your phone to control it. You can lay in bed and see what video it's recording in front of your truck. The app will let you stop, start, format and everything else.

Other dash cams may work just fine. I just happened to get this one and it works great.

Don't have one yet. I'll be putting one in my W9 for sure once it's all rebuilt.

so far I've used the video from my dash cam 4X
1st was when I awoke to the sound of my mirror getting peeled off my door and my hood getting ripped up.... hit and run....geee,,, I called Schneider and they said our driver didn't do it.... all I said was do you want to see the video from my dash cam....? 20min later I got a call from Schneider"s insurance

2nd was I had been sleeping and when I got up I looked out the windshield and some driver was just standing in front of his truck with shower bag in hand looking at his hood laying upside down on the ground, I pulled the video up with my laptop moved it to a blank DVD I had (I always have them) when the cop showed up I just walked over and gave the driver the dvd and said this is all you'll need.

3rd time, I was at a shipper (they make you sit inside when being unloaded..... I I came out 1.5 hr's later had a cracked hood mirror, cracked head light, crack in the hood and the door mirror folded in.... check the video and found out all I needed as to who did it

4th time driver pulled out and cut it to hard to the left and the trailer swing got my head light, hood mirror and bumper. I told him he did it and he said how do I know HE DID IT..... showed him the video

I use the cobra cdr830 because it's 1080 and has built in GPS

I have the 840 and happy with it. For those considering this Cobra model, the raw video displays a timestamp and gps coordinates only. You have to view the video in the Cobra Windows app to see the cool stuff like speed display and moving map frame.

Nothing quick about transferring video files on any network connection. Exception being a wifi file transfer app. The three minute clip I get from my camera is about 300MB. Better and faster to get a camera that uses a microSD card (I think most do). Pop the card out of the camera, then into your phone/tablet/laptop for viewing, copying, editing, uploading. If the device of your choice doesn't have a microSD slot, get a usb adapter for about $6 just about anywhere with a better than average selection of computer accessories.

Glad the cam helped you out. What city was that? Oh never mind, all cities have one or two exit ramps where the line builds up; Atlanta is the worst for me, always on the look out for cars wanting to cut into the exit lane from the middle lane, I thought at first that's what that car wanted.

Congratulations! Glad to hear it. I'm sure you'll be a great driver, & take care of that beautiful dog of yours, bet you'll miss him till you can get him on the truck with you.

Great read, thanks good to know other cards are interchangeable.
