I drove for them about a year and a half. Cranky and HTQ are right. Stay company. Remember that getting experience is frustrating but you can always get on here ask questions and we will all try to help. If you have never been a driver it is way different than anything you have probably done before so just be patient and be ready to learn cause there's a lot of stuff that happens that no school can prepare you for. Good luck

    Thanks HTQ
I am going with Great Plains Transport. It is a lot like TA before they hired students. I think I will be happy there, I have been speaking with their drivers and have yet to hear anything bad.

My husband drove for them for over three and a half years as a company driver. I learned a little along the way about the trucking industry because of a desire to make his life and the lives of other new drivers a little easier. Besides....I didn't like not knowing what he was talking about when he would tell me about his life while he was on the road :biggrin_25525:

You will do fine with them......and there will come a day when you will know that it is time to move on.

Thank you all for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. It has been a hard day. My other dog laid down and cried yesterday when Cleo died. This morning when he woke up he went running through the house looking for her....then when he realized that it wasn't a bad dream, she was gone....he laid down in her bed and made that pitiful sobbing noise that children make when they have cried too long and too hard. I have never heard a dog make that sound before. It was so heartbreaking that none of us could bear it. The girls have spent the day in their rooms crying.

Great Plains Transport has a good reputation
but if it doesn't fit you move on
Abilene and Magnum are high on my list if this job tanks
biggest drawback i see with them is paid twice a month

I can deal with the pay every two weeks, I'm used to it now anyway. I looked at magnum but I have been off the road for over a year and also don't have a hazmat endorsement. Their pay is supposed to be great.

Sorry about Cleo HTQ. I do know how hard that is and the only bright side is that depending on what was wrong she will no longer be suffering and at peace.

See. A lot of new posts out there asking about TA. I'm just finishing training and about to get my truck. I can only speak to the training as I have yet to experience the solo driving. I went to rockwall for training so my comments are more geared to my experience there. I'm getting my truck in Olathe. I can say hotel stay is better in rockwall. Better breakfast better ammonitieas amenities.
Training was ok at the terminal thorough and Cornell was a great instructor and entertaining. After classroom it is different. Not nearly enough time on the backing range. And the coaches dont really train. They mainly use you for miles. So you will get plenty of driving but no real schooling. I had to ask questions as to y he did this or when you do that in order to learn what I needed. This seemed to be the norm with other classmates I have spoken with. These trainers are lease ops just trying to make a buck. There maybe good trainers out here that actually train but with everyone I spoke to I haven't heard one yet. With that being said you we treated pretty well just ask what you need to know and what you think they should cover and you'll be fine. Train yourself. Lol. Well I must go. God bless yall and be safe
