There is countless threads and posts about the negatives of trucking, giving reasons why newbies shouldn't go into the industry.

How about some of the reasons why you would recommend trucking?

Like Chinatown said:........... keep your driving record clean and you will always have a job. I am driving again after shutting down my small business. A 11 year gap.

    A few positives for OTR:
You basically work unsupervised for the most part.
    Not stuck behind a desk.
    Get to see new places.
Getting to meet other drivers ( some nice people driving - we are not all dirtbags)
Truck Stop follies...... (almost as much fun as sitting at a boat ramp some times)

A few bad things about OTR:
    Dealing with arrogant shippers/receivers.
    Incompetent dispatchers & load planners.
    Traffic
Being away from home 3-5 weeks at at time........(for some)
Trailer hunts.......... (My biggest pet peeve)

One day you'll get to be like cargowahgo and say you've taken a poop in 49 us states & all the provinces of Canada.

    :)

A truck is your free hotel for your Gypsie lifestyle.
A rental car is just $20 for you to go anywhere.

Its a big vacation until you've been everywhere then you want to hang yourself :D

    Remember, there's 58 states.

Youtube : On the campaign trail in Beaverton, Oregon, in May 2008, Barack Obama told a crowd that over the course of the long campaign he had been to fifty-seven states in the U.S., with one left to go.

Sometimes being alone behind the wheel at sunrise with nobody else around is the best feeling in the world....

Well, maybe not THE best, but it's pretty darn good. :)

  11. Get in with the right company and you can really determine your own worth. Work really hard and make great money, or work not so hard and make good money. I enjoy trucking because I can take 2 weeks off every 4-6 weeks. Not many jobs allow that flexibility. My kids would rather me be home like that than out 3 weeks and home 3 days, so I go to work, save as much as I can, and go home.
