I have heard and read differings on this subject.
2006 volvo d12d 465
will a abs code and light cause the engine to derate at all?
volvo said yes, another mechanic said yes but I can't find anything that says this to be true besides a mention or 2 on a forum.

abs light will never cause a truck to derate unless its a messed up wiring issue with datalink and thats never usually the case. What will cause it to loose power and loose gas pedal is the tcs light which is in the same ecm as abs, if a sensor gives information to the truck that its slipping or something like that then you will loose gas pedal and the truck will try to slow down this is not a derate exactly, this is just truck thinking its avoiding accident. It will happen with steering angle sensor on volvo sometime when they have this sensor installed not all of them do, but when it makes problems you turn to the right no problem turn to left and truck tries to stop and tcs starts flashing.
BoxCarKidd and taxihacker66 Thank this. -
I have the same truck 2006 Volvo D12
when I've had the abs light (with code) it runs just the same, no derate at all
i'll ask my dealer in about 2hr's about it when I pick mine up -
I didnt think so. I've got a abs light on now and it is running just fine.... well at least I think it is haha. I'm hauling 140000 so it's gutless either way!

I had all 4 drive wheel sensors replaced a couple weeks ago on my 07 VNL 670.
TCS light would flash and it acted just like a derate. intermittently cut out... and the cooling fan would run even when temp was at 180, and didn't have full power...giving the sense of derate.
Changing sensors fixed the problem. -
An ABS fault typically only disable the ABS system on the wheels affected by the fault. You'll have normal, non-ABS brakes to the wheels with faults.
