CargoNet reported this week that more than $19.5 million in truck freight was stolen in the second quarter — an $8 million increase from the same period last year.
According to CargoNet, the number of cargo theft incidents rose 8 percent in the second quarter year-over-year. The month of April had the most recorded cargo thefts in the U.S. with 70. May had 67 reported, and June had 57.
California had the most number of thefts with 36, followed by Texas with 35 and Florida with 27.
Twenty-nine percent of cargo thefts occurred at truck stops and parking lots. Nine percent were classified as fictitious or fraudulent cargo pickups, and 2 percent were violent, either hijackings or armed robberies.
Food and beverage items were the most stolen commodity in the second quarter. Loads of nuts and alcoholic beverages were among the most targeted items. Household items were the second-most stolen commodity.
Theft of electronics ranked third, but were the most expensive of the stolen items.
The average loss value per cargo theft was $168,308, but some categories such as electronics were much higher. The median theft value was $338,464.passport220 Thanks this. -
This seems like the place to ask this, seeing as a lot of TA drivers are around... I'll just throw some questions I have out there and if anyone has some time to answer them I'd be grateful.
Olathe orientation is 3 days and then out with a trainer for a stint? No road test/etc before trainer?
Once done training, a week of classes follows? And then I assume some type of driving/backing test?
What's the waiting time on a truck for a company driver after the above?
And is it driver facing cameras or just dash cams?
Thanks.passport220, jdmredneck33 and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
basic road test out and around the block just to make sure you didn't just "buy" your license
usually classes then trainer then test out
driver facing cameras
almost all the training companies now
waiting time for a truck is just a trick to get you to lease
don't lease brand new no matter whatHick, passport220, jdmredneck33 and 1 other person Thank this. -
as long as you make it clear that you are not going to lease(without being an ### about it) you will not have to wait on a truck.

The King just told them that he felt like he had too much to learn at first and wouldn't feel comfortable leasing......he might consider it later on. They never bothered him with it again while he was in training. About 6 months later he was asked if he would like to lease, he told them he was happy being a company driver and it was never mentioned again in all of the time he was there.
You will be out with a trainer anywhere from 7 to 11 days. The King got back to the yard on a Friday and was in his truck by Monday.Last edited: Aug 15, 2015

3 days orientation back to hotel for weekend then 4 days on yard for training then 7-11 days with trainer. In Olathe there should be no wait on a truck. Don't lease no matter how easy they make it look. Good luck

Am committed now to taking a vacation. Just laid down the money for 5 or 6 days in Keystone, SD. The Mt Rushmore area. As cheap as I am, I'm surprised I didn't squawk over the price. Hmmmm, it could be that I actually realize, that I might just need this break!!
