TripleSix,,,if your on a PUBLIC (private) forum or on a public highway, or in a public store or on a public raido,,, your business that you put out there is now everyone's.... Come on, it don't take a rocket scientist to know this.. Just like when I was waiting in line at a subway and there was a man talking on his cell to whomever,,,the sandwich maker thought that man said something to him while he was making the guy's sandwich and the guy showed the sandwich maker he was on his cell,,,the sandwich maker apologized.. I could not just stand there and say nothing because I am no coward being a Combat Vet.. So, I said to the sandwich maker; "Don't be sorry, your making his sandwich and if being on his cell is more important than you making his sandwich, than make mine". Boy, that man got PO and told me to mind my business....lol I informed him when your in a public place, talking on the cell phone, your making your business, my business. Don't like it? Than take it outside and let me get my sandwich.... Let us not forget the 1st Amendment either..... You don't have to like what I say but it is Constitutional... If you don't like that,,,talking in general now,,,than go to a Country that thinks your the King...

 

My girl that I hope to take with me. She's right at 50 pounds, but a sweetheart. Pit mix.

 

I have a Pit but they shed to dang much for me to take him with me... I would love to though...

Question: how do the big dogs (that you can't hoist up) get in and out of the truck? Do you have to hoist them up to crawl into the floor space? How do they get out? That's too high for my scaredy cat pit bull to jump down...

 

That's been on my mind lately too since the day when he might join me draws closer.

I did see a border collie climb the steps of s rig to get in but not sure if he/she climbed, jumped, or got assistance getting down.

But that dog was a bit lighter than my boy... lol

I have been toying with a small ramp concept where the ramp would sit on the second step. When the dog walks up the short (three foot?) ramp to the second step then he can take the last step with no problem. Then when exiting he only need to step down one step to the ramp and walk it the rest of the way down to the ground.

Been tossing different materials around in my head... I think it would be strapped to the cat walk or behind the cab somewhere so it would need to be weather resistant. What, not sure yet.

One idea has been to make a simple ladder from black pipe (might be a tad heavy and overkill) and attach a length of leather to the side rails... Then the leather would swoop between the rungs (steps) so anywhere he steps going up or down would be supported.

It can't be too long as one would not want the steps to hit or be under the truck beside you. Thus another reason to run it up to the second step vs the cab floor so that it would be shorter yet still viable for the dog.

Then either put it in the side box or strap it to the cat walk. As long as it's lighter than the dog in question and easier to handle its a win for everyone.

 

Aluminum would be nice and light but I hear welding aluminum is not the easiest tast. This the black pipe concept.
