Company I work for has one Yard and it's like 400 or 500 miles from Home.

They just get me a load that gets close to Home. I go home and it's up to me where to park the Truck.

    Rambler470 Thanks this.

The bigger the mega carrier the more drop yards they have.Werner for example has drop yards all over the country.Petro may be where you end up dropping your trailer then bobtail home.Or if your company has a customer near you then you may leave your trk and trl there providing the customer is ok with that.

Werner's drop yard in Albuquerque is totally unsecured. It's next door to the TA.

Some companies drop and repower at the fuel island.

I wonder if they have them go missing. When I was working for my former employer who was a Werner Power Only operator, I did a drop at the Walmart in Los Lunas. It was a drop and hook but that day they didn't have any empties. My dispatcher told me to go to that yard. I get there, find and empty, and see no one around. I asked two other Werner drivers there who we were supposed to sign the trailer out from, since picking up an empty from a regular Werner terminal required paperwork, an act of Congress, etc. They shrugged and said "no one that they knew of", just hook and book.

A lot of companies do NOT ADVERTISE the location of their drop lots on the internet as thieves have a habit of stealing trailers and no need to give them more info to help locate unguarded ( most places ) trailers
