Back haul is dead in California just as head haul is dead. Haven't seen descent freight in over 3 months. We are all crossing our fingers for The better these coming month since the holidays are around the corner. Brokers are taking advantage of the lower fuel, but these rates are super low.
John quinton, double yellow and ChromeNut Thank this. -
Has more to do (I think) with the growing seasons all screwed up. Cali is producing less and less every year and back at home (where I am from at least) more of our produce is sourced locally ... Keep learning every day that's all I can say about it ...
double yellow Thanks this. -
Back haul is 2 dirty four letter worda that should show up like this #### #### on here. Haha
lots of character Thanks this. -
CA manufacturing is all but dead, the drought has decimated produce, and union workers have made west coast ports so uncompetitive ships increasingly offload in Baja Mexico and drive to Calexico & Nogales (or go through the Panama canal to the east coast ports).
Every politician in Sacramento and every union leader ought to take a field trip to Detroit to see what happens when regulation, government spending, and labor costs spiral out of control...
Unfortunately that'll never happen -- CA is a place where Cloud Atlas is taught in schools instead of Atlas Shrugged...areelius, gokiddogo and scottlav46 Thank this. -
Texas saw this coming a few years ago and starting dredging and upgrading the Houston ports to take advantage of the new business. Now, just keep the union west coast port clowns from transferring to Texas and the east coast ports to prevent them stirring up trouble there.

And, the Panama Canal is currently being enlarged to handle the new bigger container ships so they can go to the east coast instead of offloading on the west coast. I think the canal overhaul should be completed next year.

[Q="gokiddogo, post: 4737752, member: 81981"]Ok I must of misunderstood. You can handle cheap freight if it is consistent.
Got it.[/QUOTE]
I leased onto a company near my house . NC to CA and back to NC. Well, it turned out that freight was pretty cheap. ......... but it was real consistent.
I quit after a few months.
