Im about to start working with swift transportation, i did my training and im ready. But my trainer is an owner operator and wants me to go work for him as a team. He just got his truck this year and says that he doesnt want students messing it up. He will pay me $800 a week after taxes. So no matter what ill take 800 a week every week. But with no benefits such as medical insurance and life insurance. I can easily pay for that though. As a company driver ill be getting 34 cents per mile and for my first 3 months just run 1800-2400 miles a week which is maybe 400-600 a week after taxes and insurance deductions. I know going on a team seems better at the moment. But i have questions, he doesnt really know anything about running his own company so idk if my future team driver(future boss) will mess my career over. If i decide to quit and go to a local company after a year of working team. Will he be able to verified that i was working with him. Will my next company take it as Verifiable experience? I dont want to be working for someone and make money but dont get anywhere career wise. I hope i explained it good and you guys can help me with tips about team driving. Will you guys do it? Or go solo? Tomorrow ima go to the terminal to get a truck assigned to me and leave as a solo, or tell them that ill be going on team. I have less than 24 hours to make a decision. Or can someone that knows an owner operater send me their user name so i can ask what to expect and what to ask for from my team driver.
team with a O/O Or Ride Solo?

go solo, he is under cutting the money and benefits you'll get on your own as a solo.
Dreamboat and chorizo992 Thank this. -
You'd take home more as a company team driver and have benefits
chorizo992 Thanks this. -
On the other hand you'd be able to experience first hand how the flease will drown the owner in debt and crush his dreams after the truck gets repo'd when you're in the shop for a week. That would be a valuable lesson to learn and your loss would only be 1 paycheck and not your credit.
Toomanybikes, Cottonmouth85 and chorizo992 Thank this. -
you claim he does not know how to operate a business..??
do you think you're really gonna get a paycheck every week??
go solo......screw him.Toomanybikes, Jayrag and chorizo992 Thank this. -
That is a lesson i dont want to learn about if it means that its going to cost me a paycheck since he is not going to be able to pay me. I didnt think about this! Thank you for bringing this up. This is the type of stuff i want to know about now before i get into it with him. The only pros i see is a 800$ check every week (as long as we dont break down of course like you said). And having a little more security with someone experienced by my side. But everyone starts like that, scared of situations, scared of hitting something. It will take me time, thats it. Ill run solo better. Thank you -
If the guy is an OO and has his truck leased to swift, he has no business sense...RUN!
Jayrag, G.Anthony and chorizo992 Thank this. -
Well he just got into the lease contract 6 months ago. He was a mentor but got kicked outta the mentor program because he would yell at his students for messing up the gears.
The money is what got my attention since ima need money for food and my rent back at home. But its true, i needed to open my eyes. F thatG.Anthony Thanks this. -
if as a mentor, driving a COMPANY TRUCK and he yelled at students, what on God' good earth do you think he WILL DO TO YOU, if you mess up the truck HE IS NOW PAYING FOR.....?????
STAY THE F AWAY FROM HIM..... -
No brainer. Stay company driver.
chorizo992 and G.Anthony Thank this.
