First time entering NYC.
2 part question
I'd like to know about some spots you've been able to park or take 10hr breaks at that are close to any tourist attractions.
My load delivers around the Bushwick area.
Second question, I'll be coming in from the south, what highways would you recommend I take to be able to have the best view of the Empire State building or other great city scapes
Thank you very much!
Good night!

About the only place to park is the Vince Lombardi Service area. Yes there are two truckstops in Kearney but....nah.
tscottme Thanks this. -
Are you going to Boars Head?
Believe it or not there are guys who park overnight in the city over near the Javits Center and on 11th Ave in the lower 30's, technically within walking distance to Times Square. Not that you'd want to go there or anything.
I'd run 287 into the Outerbridge crossing into Staten Island, then up 440 (watch your speed through there) to the 278 over the Verrazano bridge into Brooklyn. Stay on that till Flushing Ave exit and go east across Flushing to get to Bushwick. Good views of the city through downtown Brooklyn but take it easy through there...it gets narrow. I usually just hog the left lane and ride the yellow line until past the Manhattan bridge. Often times that area will be clogged with traffic anyway and you won't be doing any better than walking speed anyway, which is much safer.Last edited: Aug 18, 2015

Guessing your comin up the pike? Best bet is exit 10---take 440 south into Staten Island...follow 440s to 278...youll cross the Bridge into Brooklyn....from top of Bridge you'll get your best view of lower Manhatten and the Harbor....the Statue of Liberty will be at about 10 o'clock....as for actually sightseeing...its kinda tricky....no real normal truck parking in the city....especially if you don't know the area. If I knew exactly where your goin...i mightcould help.....but in the case of many drivers new to area I go w/pak....make your drop....work you're way back to 278....follow north into Bronx(mind the truck route detour!)then follow 87North once over bridge into Bronx&follow signs for 95south....its just past Yankee Stadium.....once your on 95 you'll cross back into NJ... Then follow signs for NJTP South.....The Lombardi Service plaza is before you actually enter the pike...therefore no toll....and can be accessed from either spur....so don't mind the E-W split....either will get you there....then if you really care to explore....you can walk back about 100 yds north of truck pkg area(b careful ain't really made for walkin..but doable)to the NJ Transit Bus Stop....where for just a few bucks...you can catch the bus into the Port Authority terminal...which is the Main Bus Terminal for NYC....right off Times Square.....and play tourist to your heart content.....Enjoy

If your dropping in Bushwick your best bet would be to come up and spend the night in greenpoint by the film studios on kingsland or monitor st off greenpoint ave...one turn getting out of there can be a little tight but it shoukd be no problem.it's street parking with alternate side so be sure to watch the signs but there is plenty of open spots. There is no amenities around but you are a 3 block walk to the 'G' train which you take one stop to the '7' train then you are two stops from times square. This is a short ride from Bushwick go back to the bqe get off at mcguiness Humboldt then make a right on greenpoint ave right on monitor st. If you would like more info let me know I drive locally around here

Is it safe to leave your truck at the Lombardi travel area? I feel like I'd come back and it would be broken into or otherwise maimed.

I get worried leaving my truck alone while I shower at a pilot, more less NY city HAHA
I would need blood pressure pills for the walk back to my truck. haha‘Olhand Thanks this.
