ok , so final update, the service g didnt have a wrench either. after a little while messing around with his primer, and trying to start it up with no luck, it ended up taking 4 good ether starts and refilling the bulb each time before it finaly caught and even then it wasnt quit all the way. a few seconds of metal to wood evened it out though. after a hot fuel while my battery charged i was on my way. so i learned some things
I ran out of fuel

1. ether is bad for your engine, but it works
2. your logs arent as important as your truck.
3. it's hard to judge low fuel in a construction zone.
4. dont risk running out of fuel. the bottom of the tank has less fuel than the bottom.
5. Idleing sucks fuel faster than I realized.
7. if you do run out of fuel, expect to need an external electrical source.
8. O/O's are better equiped to handle most issues comapred to some service trucks.

Nothing will help you more then experience from having to do it.
Live and learn.
I like to go by miles. Trust no fuel gauge. My ltl truck sucks tank sludge at a 1/4 tank. So I go 400 miles (5 mpg yikes!) And refuel. -
I don't know how you figure the fuel at the bottom of the tank is somehow worse then the fuel at the top. My truck picks it up from the bottom of the tank. The same place where any "sludge" would accumulate. It does not siphon it off the top as the level drops ...

OP
Do you know how many miles you drove once you parked for the night?
99% of all big rigs fuel gauges are un reliable.
Invest in a fuel stick.https://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/webcart_productDisplay.php?itemid=199839&itemdesc=Drivers+Accurate+Fuel+Stick
If your tank or tanks have anti-syphon. Goto home depot get a small dowel.![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hastiles.com%2Fimages%2FWood-Dowel-500.png&hash=310936bbe5d8e92ef7dff40bcd3320b4)
take a Philips screw driver to widen one hole in screen. So you can put the dowel same place every time. You will be able to. "Dip your tanks" to measure your fuel level.
Never trust a tank guage.Shaggy, bottomdumpin, Straight Stacks and 1 other person Thank this. -
Said every married guy ever!
MikeeeeShaggy, bottomdumpin, truckerlife74 and 3 others Thank this.
