Find a company that'll take you with the permit, then when you're ready go do your road test ($60-160) and get your cdl?

You're gonna do what you want as a cdl holder, but I sincerely suggest joining a small fleet to get your experience before you jump on with a mega. Going out with a mega with the wrong mind state will ruin the whole industry for you.

Check out FedEx driver apprentice program or ups' dock to driver deal, something along those lines.

Training, good local job so you're home for the family, good earning potential etc.

 

I just have to ask, are you sure you know what you're getting into?

Being a driver will either be your biggest mistake or the best thing you've ever done.

 

Earl Henderson Trucking will probably hire you. Don't need any money to get started. They have an guaranteed minimum weekly paycheck. They will provide a hotel room at their school and 3 meals a day plus they will bus or Amtrak you to the school from Georgia.

You will need:
original birth certificate
original social security card
cheap work gloves
steel toed work boots - slipon style are best, but any will do.
flashlight
sleeping bag & pillow-need these when riding with your trainer.

Their new drivers say they make $55K the first year.
