I see a lot of truckers park at walmart supercenters, so I saw the other thread of the guy complaining about not being able to buy fresh fruits and vegetables,
So I would like to know how often can you buy fresh uncut produce while otr or is it a mute issue and just a complain that he was unable to buy fresh produce at truckstops.
How often can you buy fresh produce at walmart

For an OTR driver everyday you could easily stop at a Walmart. There are small cities all over the interstates that have easily accessible Walmarts. Some even have actual truck parking. Unavailability of fresh produce is a convenient excuse for someone that didn't really want to be a driver anyway. Road expenses is another cheap excuse. I can shop at Walmart just as often as a local and I didn't even burn my own gas getting there.
Some truckstops are literally right beside a Walmart or other grocery store.
This job isn't a dire death spiral into hell that some make it out to be. Your meal choices will be more limited but they hardly need be truckstop only food. -
Think it is more of a laziness problem, than that of finding fresh produce.

I get into a Walmart at least once a week, cheaper and better for you.

Depending on what you buy , 3 to 5 days

Walamrt supercenters are open 24/7... Their produce departments are staffed from 5am to ~10pm, deliveries come in daily between midnight and 6am, usually before 7 or 8am is a bad time, and after 7 or 8pm on a busy day pickins can get slim.
How ever, there are many walmarts that are difficult to get to, many stores and cities don' twnat trucks parking there. I was all set to spend a few hundred at a walmart in Arkansas once, and a manager came up to me as I was getting out of the truck and told me that 'the store didn't care' but the police come by often and might ticket me. There was another truck infront of me (on the side of the store) and about 10 trucks parked in the main parking area. Needless to say, I didn't need anything that bad and kept moving -I probably wouldn't have been ticketed, but I didn't want to spend money there just in case.
You'll have more luck with Walmarts especially when you're further west. You can occasionally find truck stops near grocery stores. Theres a Loves on 70 in Colorado right next to a very nice grocery store, for example. The Petro/Loves in Gary, IN has an Aldi's right down the street (a very short walk) if you want food.T_Bone Thanks this. -
You don't have to limit yourself to Sprawl-marts. You can go to any store that has a truck dock.
PayCheck and Canned Spam Thank this. -
