Considering that I retired in May 2013 after 20 plus years I stand corrected.... Before renewing my physical last year I got a letter from TX DOT reminding me i was due ... I may be wrong but I THINK that it is now tied to your CDL could be wrong

 

they are not obligated to give it to you if they paid for it .

That's the direction it's headed for sure. Many states are behind the curve on integrating the two; my home state being one. Another "thou shalt" from the feds without the funding to go with it........leaves states scrambling to come up with the money on their own.
