Depends on the process your state requires. Some will accept a bill of sale and will issue you a new title and registration with just that, others require a title that has been signed over to you on the back. Either way, you will need to take your paperwork to your motor vehicle office and they will help you start the process to obtain a title and registration in your name. You will need to have your insurance in place before applying for the registration, then after you have it registered and have your fuel decals you can have it inspected and ready to haul. You will also have to file form 2290 and pay your heavy highway use tax within 60 days of purchase, however some states require proof this was paid before they will issue a registration, so check with what ever state you are registering (base plate) the truck in.

You should be able to get it insured and inspected. You will not get a new title in your name without the old one.
Depending on carrier you might be able to lease on. They may accept your bill of sale with both parties signed. As a carrier I would have,
Do you have proof of HUT paid. IF not you will have to pay it for the last year. Seller should provide you a copy of receipt.bigmikeflatbed Thanks this. -
