My husband has already been approved to go work for Celadon, with a tentative start date for orientation, still waiting to hear back from Mercer, though I've heard it's a little bit of a wait because they don't have the trailers.
If you had to decide between these two, based on their freight and the average gross revenue to the truck, which would you choose and why?
If it helps to figure freight lanes, we live about an hour southwest of Dallas, TX. Thanks!

I have a brother in law doing a CELADON Flatbed Lease deal ( 5th or 6th lease attempt on his part ) he would do better if he did not suffer from the I NO WANNA WORKEEE SYNDROME.
They seem to keep him running pretty steady but he has issues with dispatchers / customers ecte so I think he will be moving on pretty soon from what his wife told mine yesterday -
My husband has no problem working hard. He is a very hard worker and a fast learner, too. He has a family at home to support, and we are his number one concern. He currently goes without eating working up in North Dakota just to make sure that his girls and wife don't have to even worry about going without. I yell at him constantly for it, lol.
And he's a great guy, really friendly, so I have no worries of him getting along with his dispatchers and the customers, so long as they aren't complete a-holes.

I am going to the Celadon flatbed lease purchase program. I have worked for TMC and Jordan Carriers. I did great as a company driver. I am prior military and I have an outstanding work ethic. I am very easy to get along with. I don't complain because I know if you want something worth something you must be willing to sacrifice and work hard for it that includes taking the good with the bad. Finding my own loads will be new to me and I am ready to learn. I have done so much reading and researching on being an owner operator. You are a business owner not just a company driver. I am always open to learn new things when it comes to trucking. As an owner operator your life revolves around the truck(your business) not the other way around.

blacklabel, tscottme and gjcarr03 Thank this. -
The two companies are totally different. You really can't compare them. Celadon has company drivers and dispatchers. Mercer has NO company drivers and is self dispatch. Nobody tells you when to work. Nobody tells you when you can go home. You do what you want. If you want to stay home for 3 months nobody calls and says get back to work.
highspeed1972, MCET and blacklabel Thank this. -

hiring relatives is the worse ? what are you rambling about and who is hiring relativesMCET Thanks this. -
if he was any good he would work for you
i used to hire relatives gave me headaches -
Celadon is a training company. Does he not have a lot experience driving?
MCET Thanks this. -
He has 10 1/2 years on his CDL, accident/violation free. He's been a driver instructor and also a supervisor over a fleet of 40 trucks, scheduling and dispatching them, all while driving one of those 40 trucks 60-70 hours a week. He's a hard worker and a fast learner. I have no doubt he will do well no matter where he goes. We've been searching and researching all week while he's been home and while Mercer is his top choice, Celadon didn't seem too bad to lease on with for flatbed...
