Even with an accredited school, the diploma means absolutely nothing and after a year it means even less.

Chinatown was merely making an educated guess based on the actions of the individuals. I too believe that at the first sign of rough roads they will bail. Heck, I would bet that with their type of character that one of them does not even make it a year. Probably both of them, these guys are quitters.

Kinda defensive of them, are you one of those students?

No, I live in Nebraska and it was something we were talking about in class one night and I agree that after a year or so the diploma wont mean a thing.

What is this accreditation you speak of? PTDI? LOL, you can count on your fingers and toes the amount of PTDI certified schools. PTDI is nothing more than a money making scam and no trucking company cares about PTDI....even the ones that say they do. Crete claims to only hire from PTDI schools....which is complete bull.

Get your CDL from a state licensed school and get a job with a good training carrier. Keep your job for a year, drive safe and do what you are supposed to do. After that, no one cares where you went to school.

Oh, BTW...there is no funding for truck driving schools. What you probably heard is that the school lost its qualification to accept WIA funding. Usually when a school loses that it is because their pass ratio or job placement ratio gets too low. Or they were caught putting people through that were not even qualified to be there.

WIA funding needs to be done away with. It is a HUGE suck on the tax payers wallet and the facts are that 90% of the people that receive WIA funding for job training never end up working in the field that they went to train for.

The fact that someone said they quit based on someone saying it wouldnt be worth the paper it was wrote on was simply a rumor or bologna. However you want to put it.

So yes you did say that and I agree with #chinatown.

The biggest reason for going to driving school is to learn how to drive the truck. The little diploma they give you has no value unless maybe your out of TP and in a bind. The value is in the actual CDL and the endorsements that is issued by the state which you don't need to go to school to get in all reality. That is simply just a means to an end.

My diploma that dose not exist because I never went to school is just as valuable (worthless) as any other one. Not having that little sheet of paper did not stop me from finding a 65k a year local job. It was the state issued CDL though that allowed me to get it, well that and the desire to actually work and make money instead of crying and whining and quitting because things are not always all cupcakes and rainbows in trucking. If they quit school for something like that they wont last six months in trucking. They wont be able to put up with the BS or the stress.

The diploma is just like those folks that say you need a year of OTR before you can find local work. In just over a year of driving I have never spent the night on the road either. Started out in trash, went to delivering soda, and now I pull doubles five nights a week.

I agree with mud! Driving school is just a means to an end. I went and got my permit and endorsements on my own. I scheduled a rd test but what forced me into school is I couldn't gain access to a truck for my rd test. Penske and Ryder said they only rent to carriers. My father has his class a and a straight truck with current dot and Mc #'s and legit business. They said that wouldn't qualify him as a legit carrier. So it cost me 6 grand to borrow a truck. I got a nice shiny diploma that's still in the envelope they mailed it out in and it's in the bottom of my dresser drawer. I found a small local company that does local work April to Nov and then northeast regional runs the rest of the time

All my driving employers cared zero about a driving school diploma. However, New to trucking like i was, It helped a lot. Still a racket, If i had a friend with access to a tractor trailer would of been easier.

Now, I have a ton of friends with access to tractor trailers :D
