Hi everyone,
I started driving in 2004 for the pumpkin patch, then after my year was up, switched over to a smaller company. Worked for them for about a year then went to a local job (which ended up with me jockeying trailers for a brief time) to be home with my young daughter. I went back to driving after a while (with the same smaller company I worked for after big orange) because the bills just weren't able to be paid making what i was making. After about a year and a half, the company was sold. This was in 2009. I have worked a couple different jobs since then, but for the past 4.5 years, I have been running a small local utility.
To make a long story short, I have decided to go back to driving again. I currently have an app in with US Xpress, as the pay/mileage seems ok. I have been trying to get in touch with my recruiter for a week or so, to no avail, but will be trying again tomorrow when it isnt a holiday weekend. That said, does anyone have any idea of any other companies that might be a good idea to apply to? I have already put in the required 30 day notice to my employer, as I was told that I would just have to show up to orientation, make it through ok, and do an extended check ride for US. I, however, have not been given a date yet, and am getting nervous, considering once the 2nd of Oct rolls around, I will be unemployed.
So, looking for suggestions. I would prefer longer hauls, out around 2 weeks, and would prefer to stay out of the NE. APU or idling for comfort are a must, and I would love to have a rider and pet policy. I have looked around, and most company websites have stated either a requirement of more current experience than I have, or want me to pay for a refresher course. I still have a family I need to support, so I would need to be able to keep unpaid time to an absolute minimum.
Thanks in Advance!

Where do you live? Your screen name would suggest upstate NY, but you said you don't want to run NE. If you live near 81,75,40,or 65 I would suggest Big G Express. I don't think they are real picky about recent experience and they are a great company.

I live in eastern WV. About an hour from 81 or 68, and an hour 15 from 70

Yeah call a Big G. I worked there for over 2 years and was very happy. You will do a lot of Jersey, MD, and eastern PA but no NYC and rarely into New England. You will also do a lot of SE and Midwest too though. They don't go west of the Mississippi except for the occasional load to TX. Home every weekend and nice new trucks with Thermo King APUs and 1800 watt inverters.Hudson_MacBeth Thanks this.

Just a thought, but why not go back to work for sni?
If you've got a record with them that's good I can't imagine they wouldn't take you back.
Though I think you can do better than usx.....
