You did the CDL school in 2008, so if you haven't used it and don't have a CDL, you're pretty much starting over; lots of changes since 2008.
Millis Transfer would be the most convienient for you, but if you want to run coast to coast, try Earl Henderson Trucking. Millis runs Eastern half of USA.

So do you think I should go back to school? I have been studying hard by myself from the book the DMV gave me. (Self check) 34 yrs old, wife and 5 kids. Making 8.00 hour at current job and never more then 30 hours a week (company policy) and I get paid every two weeks

Wow, wife & 5; you need good paychecks. Yes, go back to school for at least 160 hrs. As you know, community college CDL schools are very cheap in NC. While there get the tanker/hazmat endorsements.
Think about hazmat tankers. Several good tanker companies hire drivers from NC. Some Trimac Transportation drivers make $80K - $100K per year.
Here's some more that hire new CDL grads:
    Schneider Bulk
    Tidewater Transit
    CTL Transportation
    Groendyke Transport
    Superior Carriers
    SVTN

One new CDL grad posted Bulkmatic hired him right out of school.

May have to do a heart rate test for tankers, so if this interests you, start practicing by doing stair step excercises.

If you don't want tankers, there's other good options right out of school.
Earl Henderson Trucking drivers post they make about $50K - $55K their first year and have a guaranteed minimum paycheck of $798.00 weekly.

Give schneider a try. Get paid while getting your cdl and let them pay up front. U just sign an agreement to work for them a yr. By then you will have knowledge experience and a better look in the trucking game

I think you ought to try to pass the test. I will be courious if you can get hired though. I'm afraid that the companies that require training will want you to go back to the classroom due to the time between school and CDL.
