He killed 2 people and only got 12 months? Doesn't seem right. Especially when I've heard of people getting more time for lesser crimes.

I agree I don't think that's a long enough sentence, and it says 6-12 months so he will probably actually only serve around 3 or 4 if he behaves himself. Must have hired a good lawyer to get that reduced to reckless endangerment, to be that's what the charge should have been if no deaths occurred, I would think involuntary manslaughter would be a more fitting charge usually carrying a few year minimum sentence depending on the state. I would think the solicitor had a relationship with his lawyer most likely financially to drop the charge to that, or just to settle the matter and stop the dragging on who knows, there is more than enough there to prove involuntary homicide I would think.

edit: also wondering what would have happened if he just ####ed up and wasn't texting or doing anything wrong besides letting his mind wander to much, wouldn't that be involuntary manslaughter just as much?

If the 2 who was killed related to anyone of any importance, the driver would have gotten the death penalty.

One of the bigger problems with society. We have laws against murder and man slaughter that aren't enforced hard enough. Then all these minor laws trying to prevent hard crime like texting while driving and DUI, that erode our freedom to travel.

We sacrifice liberty for security, and in the end, we're left with neither.

I don't get it,we read how strict the law is against texting and driving and this driver basically got away with murder.I hope the judge who sentence this driver gets fired.

The solicitor gave in to defense lawyers plea agreement offer instead of going after the original charge. Why? He is dealing with a lot of cases and now this is one less thing on his plate, or he was financially compensated off of the books to accept the lesser charge. Money usually controls everything.

As much as I am appalled by the courts decision, this is in no way murder.
