I've been off the road for 10 years. Still have my CDL and want to hit the road again. Any suggestions on how to do that. Should I take a refresher or go through a school again? Would any companies take me with just a refresher?
Looking to come back to driving

Yep there are several refresher companies for you to choose a few I know are western express and ptl.. I am not recommending either just stating gl and get with Chinatown he has all the info

I have been of road over 11 years. Swift hired me. I start orientation in a few weeks. -
I would find companies you want to work for and call them and ask.
The biggest ones are scrambling to fill seats so they may be willing to just hire you. -
Swift will probably take you. These days it's hard to know which company will take who because it seems every company is bending their own hiring rules. Another driver that's been off the road a few years was hired by Abilene Motor Express, which was a shocker because they've always been real strict about complying with their own company policy.

Where is your location?
If you're in the hiring area, CTL Transportation may pay for CDL school then put you in hazmat/tankers at graduation.Last edited: Sep 12, 2015
rachi Thanks this. -
You've got plenty of advice on re-training. All I can offer is Go for it. I first started 19 years ago but only stayed a short while. I never could let it go and decided to give it another shot about five years ago. Now I'm having the time of my life. I feel like Rocky must have felt in Rocky Balboa

I live in GA. I spoke to Swift recently but am not sure about them. They said 200hrs in a truck with a trainer. Not sure I want to go with them. I've read too manybad things. Of course, can't believe everything you read. I talked to Schneider too. Who knows what I'll do.

Community college CDL schools in GA are cheap.
If you want company school and run coast to coast, then Earl Henderson Trucking is good. They have a guaranteed minimum weekly paycheck.Last edited: Sep 12, 2015

Check out Millis Transfer. I was in the same situation and came back thru them. Very good company.

You'll probably be the one playing "trainer" with swift for the 200 hours versus "trainee"
