10 Things you Wish You knew when you were a rookie.

1) do not get into it

2) stay as a mechanic and maybe someday become a service director at a multi car dealership

3) the schedule of a trucker stinks

4) The lifestyle stinks

5) the pay stinks

6) the roads stinks

7) being tired and not finding parking stinks

8 many co-workers stink

9) many drivers standing at the fuel desk, stink

10) the job stinks.

 

Thank you,anybody can drive trk if that's what they really wanna do and put 100% into it.I wish I would have known about the forum back in 2002 when I started and got a lot of helpful advice from the veterans instead of believing recruiters.I wish I would have done research on trucking before jumping right into in.Wish training was better then I wouldn't have had to go thru numourous trainers.One of my biggest complaints about trucking is there is no open door policy even if they say there is.You have an issue there way of resolving anything is to tell the driver if you're not happy then quit.Wish I would have been aware of all the sitting and low miles.With Werner many of my checks were 100.00 less then what students make and talk about all the unnecessary resets I had to take.With every yr trucking is getting worse and worse to the point almost unbareable especially for the new folks.I wish I would have known how unfair this industry is,all these wishes I probably wouldn't have even got into trucking had I known before what I do now.

 

I think the #1 thing that nobody ever tells you when you get into trucking is how to get OUT of trucking. I can't imagine doing anything else.

 

All I have to do is bring fabreeze and in-scents

Very little communication in trucking.You have an issue and you tell your dispatcher do you think they're going to even as much as lift a finger to help you nope,they rather see drivers angry because it wouldn't be trucking otherwise.I use to consider this profession a lifestyle now its a job where I can't wait till my shift ends.Im not driving now mainly because of what this industry has become.

 

Ugh.

Not just trucking whatever you do....
Stay positive.
Try to enjoy it.

 

Today there's many truck wrecks, I suppose there's many truck wrecks because too many people thinks that anyone can drive and 18 wheeler.

 

It starts with the training,if company doesn't care who trains,students aren't going to learn much.
