I thought one needs a Class-B for straight truck, no?

I'll take my bottom rung local job any day of the week and laugh all the way to the bank. BTW it takes a few years to get hired on this job, you just can't walk in and get hired hauling gasoline.
dog-c Thanks this. -
Ayri I spent Xmas in a semi in a McDonald's parking lot working my first year Over the road....the reason why you're pissing off a few members is because you don't see the sacrifice we have to go through.
How would you, in your effort to bypass the crucial year of otr, get to know how a class 8 vehicle feels like?
And NEWARK!? Are you kidding???
You want to hold up 6-7 trucks in a line waiting for you to back in a 90 degree angle ? With no help? Because you want to go to a local class A job? Not gonna happen Hun. You have to do otr to get into crap situations only you can bail yourself out of.
Dark_Majesty_06 Thanks this. -
You could go work the docks at an ltl company, if your good at that a lot of copainies will train you and then your on top of the heap right away. At that point you would need to figure out if you want to work local p and d or line runs at night, either way the pay is pretty good.

There is no reason to make the sacrifice many of us have made, if you do it right you can get a local job as your first job, but going to a cdl mill is not the way to do it.
Dumdriver, GasHauler and Canned Spam Thank this. -
Look on Indeed.com with search terms like cdl driver, cdl delivery, cdl, delivery driver. Contact these companies and find out what their minimum requirements are. From there you can figure out how to get your CDL. Some companies train. Maybe you should start out with your class B, its much easier to get in to a box truck.
