Old school versus Elogs

But OlHand, what are they going to do about the driver shortage??? When you're gone, all that will be left are the fat crybaby cowards! Of course, someone will point out that all they'd have to do to fill seats is legalize weed. And to think that in the mid to late 90s, they forced out all the cranked up drivers. Black teeth and a cow lick a mile wide. I figure if you're going to legalize drugs, you should do it to bring back those wired up roll a week straight Big Daddy Roth looking characters we use to have driving a truck, instead of some no driving, ever slacking, no talent burnout. Simple economics...1 cranked up driver =10 burnouts. If you're going to allow drugs, it should only be the performance enhancing drugs. Legalizing drugs for burnouts to cope wth reality is a waste. I thought that Big Mac and Slammin Sammy and Moe Vaughn were good for baseball...everyone lined up to see the long ball.

Oh well, you and I are from anther era where drivers didn't need cattle prods nod hand holding to do the job. What you see today is the next step in human evolution...the effeminate fat crybaby. Bleeds even before he's cut. Afraid of everything and good for nothing.

You know, I overheard some drivers talk about the way things use to be..."Oh, if you saw a truck on the side of the road, everyone would stop and help him. The majority of trucks n the shoulder are stopped because of a flat tire. You see a driver with duals all around get a trailer tire, sit on the side f the road. Why should I stop to see about someone whose on the side of the road when he could limp that truck to a shop? How do you help those unwilling to help themselves? By leaving them alone.

It's safer than sitting on the side of the highway.

 

I have done both, As I do prefer paper over E-logs, I can do ether, as when I was still OTR, At my age I had no desire to drive 700+ mile a day anymore! as long as I could average 350-400 a day with the CPM I was getting, I was fine with that, at my age there is way more important things than just heading down the highway, On E-logs, that's very easy to do, and stay compliant with the regs, anyone saying they run out of time even doing 350-400 miles in a day, just doesn't know how to run the E-log correctly

 

If they are hellbent on fixing a problem that doesn't really exist ..I'd rather see a system similar to how they do it on the west coast ...CA OR WA ...we all know they take your picture when you cross the scale, to me that's a fair balance of "we know you were at this place at this time" but also allows some wiggle room if you need it ... Just don't cross the scale when you can't log it legal and you're good ...

 

Doesn't matter if you have Elog. You can run out of time after 100 miles. Easily. With today's HOS.

You know what, friend..if the good times were over, and you were not having any fun at all, you wouldn't be posting on TTR. As far as that ideal company that wants to do what you want to do, that would be in your own truck.

 

the good times aren't over, but it's darn near close.

the majors have taken over. the mom and pops are just about gone. and the pigs that hold the steering wheel are expanding faster then the flies. our country is getting loitered with human waste. and you can't use the restroom anymore without someone bathing in the sink. or toilets covered with paper and sheet.

 

I did both, on paper now. I prefer paper.

Thing is, I get paid hourly, and it all pays the same whether driving, on duty or 30min break ,, so I log it all. I'm in no hurry to get anywhere and I dont care how long a consignee takes to drain my tank.

However, I have run out of hours at a consignee,,, so paper makes it far less hassle to roll 10 min to park somewhere where I can get a shower and a hot square rather than sit like a dog in some parking lot with a port-a-jon. Same as when I'm 15 min from home. I'd do the same even on elogs, its just that I can 'correct' my own logs rather than going thru the hassle of calling the boss and having him do it.

 

I'll stay in paper logs as long as I can. Sorry, I like my freedom of not being forced to drive like these idiots I see on e-logs when time is getting short. All the Mandate is going to do is bring to the surface all the problems we have had forever with Hours of Service. Then the morons in our government can create a new department with our tax money to try and screw it up more.
