One thing I've seen a few guys do is buy a decent truck about 6 months to a year before they planned on going owner op. They'd spend that 6-12 months going over the truck for a couple hours on weekends, re-wiring, replacing air lines and other stuff that can get you. When they decided it was time to tell the boss where to go, they had a truck that was ready to go and work.
Bad choice?

It might help if we had a better picture of income vs expenses.
$60,000 income (~$1.40/mile @ 43,000 miles)
-------------
$7,500 truck payments
$13,000 maintenance (30cpm x 43,000)
$19,500 fuel (45cpm)
$2,500 insurance ($500/month)
$2,500 plates, qualcomm, etc ($500/month)
----------
$15,000 profit
What other expenses do you have? -
Probably was a first time buyer, truck was probably around 40K and he had to put down 25%...
-
If i have 11k cash to put down i'll just save another 11k and buy the truck title in hand.
-
Best way to do it. Save s ton on intrest and one less expense to worry about.CanadianVaquero Thanks this.

30 cpm seems high but hey, you bought a used truck. At least you know parts you have changed and wont have to worry about for a while.
Check overall truck conditon, and decide if its worth it or not. I wouldnt want a loan from the bank to spend on a money pit.TruckerPete1990 Thanks this. -
I don't know much about running your own truck and this business is unlike any other,,, most businesses are in the red for the first two years. If you didn't prepare for that your in trouble, if you can survive it your going to make it.
Like I said though I don't know ####. -
Spoke to heartland maintenance. They can't give me record's. But did let me know when oil was charged greased. Also every truck went to inspection any time they went to yard.
-
Can't give you records? Did they say why? That's sounds unusual. I guess you could call international or cummins to see if that truck had any warranty work done
