You are of the same mind as I, when I decided to chose TA. About the real pre approval and shorter training.
I have said, I did not feel super confident I had enough training when I headed out on my first solo trip but I still preferred it that way then having to spend an extended amount of time, stuck in a truck with a trainer.
I did take it slow and figured it out. Best to pick a good CDL school, not a CDL mill, get your training in there, then the short TA program does not matter as much.

Tonight's My Last Night In the Truck woohoo, Trying to stay Strong The lease is Tempting I mean I know I'm still a Rookie no real OTR experience but I know more than all the other drivers that are just starting with the company an going lease I'm Pretty Good Driver Not the best still a lot to learn But a Pretty good Driver an thanks to y'all an my dad n uncles I know a lot about the industry ... Jaso How did you make it work? Did you just use their Fuel solutions or were you able to get more then what they sent you on the Treq? I know I'm going to have to stay out 4 weeks at a time an only go home maybe 2 days then Right back out for 4 weeks I know how to plan out my routes using my Road Atlas and My Rand McNally trucker GPS an my Truck stop Pocket guide. Did your truck ever break down? Or did you get lucky? That's probably what scares me the Most is I would get in the Truck an it would break down 100miles down the road an they wouldn't give me a loaner or anything an Bam I'd already be in the Negative
dennisroc Thanks this. -

Jaso's wife had the family health insurancePanhandle flash, HometimeQueen, jdmredneck33 and 1 other person Thank this. -
There's a lot that can go wrong with leasing. Remember when we talked the numbers of students that was predicted to sign up. Was almost right on the money. Half those leasers will be gone within 45 days broke by 60 days maybe one will be there. And he/she won't be there in 90 days. A 5 minute mistake could mean hundreds if not thousands.
I also was out 6-12 weeks at a time. Very short time at home. Get your experience, get to know the company and the customers and routes. If in 3 months you feel comfortable then reevaluate. You have kids Redneck, there needs to be money coming in. I had years behind the wheel and prior leasing experience. Once you get behind very, very hard to catch up. If you go in the hole they want their money your family is of no concern to them.dennisroc, Panhandle flash, HometimeQueen and 1 other person Thank this. -

dennisroc Thanks this. -
HTQ, so sorry to hear about the King's mother passing away. Praying for you guys. I miss my dad, though, I know he's in a far better place now. My sister-in-law has been in the hospital since September 12, like 3 days after Dad's funeral. I've been going to the hospital 2, sometimes 3 days a week to keep her company. She had a portion of her scalp shaved and has a drain tube that is draining spinal fluids from her brain. She will have surgery in 2 or 3 weeks to have a permanent shunt put in from her brain to drain in her stomach. It's a "one day at a time" situation.
Redneck, be strong. Don't be tempted by the "rose tinted glasses, " or "grass is greener on the other side".....lease promises. It isn't what it's cracked up to be! !!dennisroc and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
I know I could call TA but thought someone might know on here.
Do you think TA could get me approved without my CDL ? If I decide to go driving I would have to quit my job here in Korea , then I plan to go to Sage in Indiana , 4 weeks one on one training and then straight to work for someone.
I would just like to make sure I have the job before I quit here in Korea.
I know I can pass the drug test and pretty sure the physical but would be nice to know I have the job for sure.
Htq and Jungho sorry to hear of all the family problems and hope all gets back to normal soon. I lost both my parents at a young age and still feels like yesterday : (
Redneck do you feel more competent driving the truck now than you did a few days ago ? I think I would feel more comfortable being alone than wondering what the other driver is thinking all the time. Maybe he would make me a little nervous , not sure.
Anyway , good luck and keep us posted.
And a big hello to everyone else on here , have a great day !jungHo and HometimeQueen Thank this. -
I can't say for sure, because things are always changing
, but it is my belief that you would have to get your CDL before you could get approved with TransAm. However, dennisroc, nothing ventured, nothing gained ....it may be worth a phone call to find out.
I don't think that you have anything to worry about as far as getting approved with them. Once you have your CDL I don't think you will have any trouble at all.....you will have several to choose from including TA. It will just be a matter of picking the one that best suits your needs as far as length of training, freight lanes, being able to have your wife with you, etc.
You can do this any time that you decide it is right for you.....I know that you won't have any trouble at all in finding a position after CDL school. ........Did I sound like Glenda the Good Witch?
You've always had the power, my dear, you just have to believe.
Panhandle flash, jaso37, scottlav46 and 1 other person Thank this. -
At least I like to think I had the power , Lol. And thanks for your reply. My situation is a bit different here. I have 5 weeks vacation here and thought about taking 4 weeks and going to Sage school but would rather quit here and then take my time off here in Asia and come back to the States and start school. Time will tell ???Panhandle flash and HometimeQueen Thank this.
