Hi every one! I'm looking in to going back OTR...I have over 5 years of CDL experience. My problem is that its mostly local/regional. All the companies I have spoken with, want to put me with a trainer for a couple of weeks. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with this. But, I'm a single dad with sole custody of my 9 year old son. Who will be going with me OTR. I can't be gone for more than a few days for the simple reason that I have no where for him to go for more than a few days. I cant do a week, or several weeks. I need to know what I should do. Maybe even a company that you know would actually honor my experience? Please, any info at all will be greatly appreciated.

Reading your situation it'd seem smarter to stay local

Staying local isn't much of an option. It's extremely difficult to manage school for him, and work for me. With his bus schedule, and having no one to pick him up or stay with til I get off of work. It's just him and I. His mother got on drugs, I fought for and gained custody. She wasn't much of a mother during the time. Then, in January, she OD'd. So I'm all he has, and he's all I have. Thanks for replying though, sir. I appreciate your experience and insight.

Now if/when we go OTR...home time won't be an issue. He grew up in these trucks and wants to do this. We can stay out for over a month at a time, as he will be enrolled in an online school, with state approved curriculum.

There are companies that will honor your experience without a trainer. I don't know their names off the top of my head though. Stick around someone will share eventually

Okay, I'm hearing "Schneider" pretty frequently...I know it's a company that we all make fun of, slow-### pumpkin trucks and so on. But, truthfully, how are they as a company. It feels kinda degrading to even consider them with my experience...but, honestly, are they THAT bad?
