I was on my way from CA and had to pick up 2 last cars in NM. I picked up BMW and Toyota land cruise which looked like was reconstructed. I researched in internet and it returned that its weight was bellow 6000 lbs. I also had range rover. Land cruiser was very old and clutch was in very bad condition. So I barely drove it on ramp and tied on the end of the upper ramp. I had 7 cars overall and could not even imagine I had overweight, I felt it drove like something was pulling my truck at the end. I went to scales and I had 35600 lbs on back axles. I flipped cars, worked over 3 hours. I had chevrolet colorado on the fifth wheel and I had range rover in the gut of trailer, so I could not imagine land cruiser was so heavy. So I flipped cars, changed mercedes to subaru but weight changed only by 3 hundred pounds, so I had to pull down all car and move land cruiser on the fifth wheel after which I balanced weights. This F land cruiser weighed 9000 lbs. Owner did not tip me nevertheless he saw how it tortured us. Also it was leaking diesel from the tank, exhaust was F up and smoke was coming out like it was burning. It gave me really hard time made me lose 1 day. that day I drove only 150 miles.

what are good tips to make sure and not to lose time in organizing weights

I used to be overweight all the time coz I was hauling alot of large pickup trucks. Two overweight tickets quickly changed my mind. I have a cottrell 7 car. I can also slide my fifth wheel and that helps abit. Nowadays I don't haul land cruisers, old cars( too much headaches ) or any pick up truck large than a f150 plus I load load the f150 facing forward in the shot gun if I can. Try and avoid those large suvs. They pay good but on a 7 car trailer they are trouble. I have a 2015 cottrell 5307 that I want to keep for a long time

Yeah, that's car haulin', all right. I can't imagine a Landcruiser weighing 9000 lbs. unless it's full of old batteries, but in all my trucking, I could never do car hauling. Too labor intensive, in other words, a lot of dinkin' around, in all kinds of weather. Used to be, car haulers were never overweight, with the small car craze years ago, but cars ( and trucks) are apparently getting big and heavy again. The next fuel crisis will change that, but for now, it's probably a good business to be in, as driving is king. Remember the creed, "when in doubt, scale it out". Especially with trucks.

Most high mount car hauling trailers when loaded are overweight on the trailer axles. The kingpin to axle rules keep the manufacturers from putting the axles back further where the weight wouldn't be a problem. The solution in my opinion is to have a triaxle (3) axles instead of a tandem trailer.

Although I agree with your suggestion of moving axles rearward, you would then run into an angle issue with some of these vehicles

I don'think you could move them back any further because of the kingpin to axle rules, but adding another axle in front of the tandems would solve the overweight on the trailer axles issue, If you do not "drop" the vehicle in the belly down flat just ahead of the axles, the open space is available.
