I thought of you scott and jdmredneck when I started seeing the economic reports. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise when you couldn't work out a deal on the truck. And jdmredneck, you were wise not to lease!

Wal-Mart has laid off 450 workers at its headquarters as the world's largest retailer attempts to become more nimble to compete with the likes of Amazon.com.

There are about 18,000 people who work at the headquarters Bentonville, Arkansas. The cuts were across all areas, from finance to global e-commerce. The company says that the employees were spoken to individually early on Friday.

The cuts follow months of rumors about job headquarters cuts and they were announced a month and a half after Wal-Mart cut its annual earnings outlook.

There were a couple of times while waiting on a load out of Dodge City that the King bobtailed back to Ardmore to pick up empty trailers......made for a nice check. I don't think that you would have time to do that given your delivery time. I think you will have about 1,163 miles by Tuesday when you deliver.....but if they have parking and you are already there you will still have all of your time to run on Tuesday. It's all about saving your clock. Another thing that we found was to put in for your preplan when you arrive at your final.....don't wait until you are empty. There are only so many planners and many drivers......you want to get on the list for your next load as quickly as possible.
Gee, I hope that made sense.....it's been a long time since I have had to think about this stuff!:biggrin_25517:

Finished my drops of auto parts in the northeast. Made it to the Pilot in Sturbridge MA. Picking up a drop/hook at Sonoma Williams in Jamesburg NJ in the morning and take it to the house for a couple of days then onto Pompano Beach for a delivery on Wed morning. Nice to have a couple of days rather than the standard 34-40 hour reset. Life is good.

Truck drivers on the road Oct. 18-24 can expect to encounter heightened traffic safety enforcement as part of the annual Operation Safe Driver Week.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) co-sponsors the week-long safety initiative to help minimize the number of crashes, deaths and injuries caused by crashes involving large trucks, buses and cars.

In addition to increased on-highway inspections, law enforcement officers and transportation safety officials will host safety awareness programs to provide education on the subject to motor carrier organizations.

So drivers know what officers are looking for, the top five warnings and citations issued to commercial motor vehicle operators in 2014 were:

    1. Speeding

    2. Failure to use a safety belt

    3. Failure to obey a traffic control device

    4. Possession/use/under the influence of alcohol

    5. Improper lane change

The CVSA also released data from the 2014 Operation Safe Driver Week. During last year’s event:

    • Officers pulled over 59,080 CMV drivers and car drivers for unsafe driving behaviors
    • Data was collected by 4.337 officers at 1.549 locations across the United States and Canada
    • 19,980 CMV traffic enforcement contacts were made, compared to the total of 29,048 in 2013
    • There were 28,184 roadside inspections in 2014; In 2013, there were 44,882
    • The number of warnings and citations per contact to CMV drivers was 0.45;
    • The percentage of warnings and citations issued to CMV drivers for speeding was 5.8 percent; In 2013, it was 7.3 percent
    • The percentage of warnings and citations issued to CMV drivers for failing to obey traffic control devices was 2.5 percent; In 2013, it was 1.8 percent
    • The percentage of non-CMV drivers issued warnings and citations for alcohol possession/use/under the influence in 2014 was 1.7 percent; In 2013, it was 1.5 percent
    • The percentage of warnings and citations issued to CMV drivers for failure to use seat belts was 2.8 percent; In 2013, it was 2.9 percent

Ninety-eight percent of the time it was a drop and hook at Ardmore, but the King had a few times that it was a live unload ....and it was slow going there. Was it a refrigerated load, jdmredneck? If I remember, it was the refrigerated products that were a live unload.
