    What's the phrase...uhh...hang on.

Occam's Razor. Which states, "Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected."

In simpler terms... The idea with the least complicated solution is usually the correct one.

Like I said, I surely would hate to be a business that recommends someplace unsafe. ;)

Right now, the theory with the least complicated solution? Inside job.

Had a Freind buy a brand new Winston tag a long trailer to haul his backhoe and dozer, first trip out it disappears from a lot in Ona, WV just a few miles from home. Security camera had just a glimpse of what look like a maroon Topkick or Brigadier pulling it out. Almost 5 years later and it shows up with tons of stolen trucks and equipment in KY. They changed the glad hands, took all the stickers off of it and started using it. But he did get it back, in 1 piece.

Well. It isn't advisable...that's for sure.

Could be a tall tale, but I heard a story from a driver about a guy foolish enough to try and steal some guy's truck...

After they beat the living hell out of him, they zip tied and tossed him into the trailer. Last of the story was he was left at the police station nearby with a "bill of lading" (confession) around his neck.

What really bothers me is, how a company like peterbilt doesn't have a way to track down a 2016 brand new truck. Also no one including the salesman even sushested for me to install any type of tracking system. It only goes to show you how we spent more money and don't even get the right help or information.

You came in with a check... Hate to say it, but they don't like it when you've paid outright. They don't make any money off you after the truck is sold.

It's no excuse, but I notice a quick change in attitude of car salespeople when I say I'm not financing and I'm paying outright. They aren't as quick to haggle or make deals with you.

I had the opposite experience when I bought my last pickup. After the salesman picked his jaw up off the floor he did his best to get all the bells and whistles installed ASAP so I could take it home the next day.

Everyone in marketing can stop cringing. Word of mouth, and repeat business (even if it is 10-20 years...we are talking a large purchase) are so important; If Peterbuilt would have had a competent salesperson, they could have won an "upsale" and, if they helped track down the truck, won a customer for life, who would...say... go to online forums and talk about how great they were.

Marketing is silly sometimes, but it is very real and important.

+1 on the inside job. It's easy to lose a motorcycle at a motel when the overnight desk clerk makes extra cash by tipping off some buddies when a guest checks in with a valuable bike. This could be a similar situation.
