To each his own but I'm more concerned about supporting the guy on the assembly line in Texas even if he works in a Toyota plant than I am about the CEO of Ford or GM. Nowadays most parts are coming out of Mexico no matter what brand of vehicle they end up in.

Think about it.
There are fewer and fewer American made products every year. Did you know that there are no American made microwave ovens? Zenith, GE, RCA used to make some great TV's here in the US. Not any more.
We are are a consumer driven society. Jobs are getting harder to find every year. Wages remain stagnant. Only we as Americans can bring American jobs back by supporting American products.
If I was a politician I would try to make a consumer tax on all imported goods. Drive the cost to sell imports here up to allow American products the ability to compete and be sold to support American jobs and business.
Just a thought.
HurstMJ1657 Thanks this. -
That's really interesting. Tax the imports so the American-made vehicles can compete in America.
You make me giggle. -
Also... Does this apply to only cars, or everything else made in foreign countries? Because you're going to be really, really hard pressed to buy only "Made in America" items these days.
-
At least you are not getting one of those 1500's. nothing more than a glorified El Camino any more.
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
When I had trucks, I use to run the old K5 Blazer. A 73, 79, and 87. I was a chauffer in my teens. The boss would lease new Caddies and Lincolns every 2 months. Want to know how many breakdowns we had with brand spanking new American luxury cars?
And then my 4x4 trucks. I was diehard American. But after 79, they all went downhill. Junk engines, wimpy transmissions, junk tranfer cases, junk axles, junk interiors. Used to hotrod Chevy cars too. Got tired of junk.
My boss had a turbo280Z. He bought a turbo 300. That was the best built, most solid car, most luxurious car n the first car i had ever driven that would run 125 happily all day. I found it disgusting. I got rid of all my GM junk when i retired in 2000. Bought a twin turbo Z in 2000. T tops, leather and suede interior. Cranked her up to 540 rwhp, and only had to replace the clutch. Extremely strong, beautiful, but completely solid. And she was 7 yrs old when i bought her. Put 250000 on that car. 250k on a stock block, stock tranny, stock rear diff car that the interior is still beautiful. Made me sick. Look at a Vette the same year and compare.
Went looking for a bike last yr. Dod not want to even look at an American bike. I was looking at the metric cruisers. Was going to pull the trigger on a Yamaha Midnight Warrior, but someone had me test ride a VRod. Called a friend that bought on and he said that his had been solid for over 10years. What? An American product that can hold up for 10years? Bought a NightRod last fall. Awesome machine. Went riding down the road and this German guy flags me down wanting to buy my bike. Well, apparently VRods aren't very well liked in the States ("its not a Harley. Its liquid cooled.") but they're huge in Europe. Does that even make sense? I bought an American bike thats fast and reliable, but all the aftermarket is in Europe.
Why should I buy American if American is content to continue turning out inferior product? I'm not stuck on brands or anything, but I will get my moneys worth.cnsper Thanks this. -
Made in America 20 years ago meant something. Now days its all made to throwaway.

If I buy a new car it will probably be a Kia since they are made right here in Georgia. My father even helped to build the plant. I support American workers. I could care less if the name isn't one of the big three. -
Kia Sorrento. 2016. Got 3200 miles on it. Transmission took a dump. They've had it at the dealer to warrantee it for 27 days today.
Yesterday they called to say the ATF got into the coolant and the motor is junk too.
Grrrrr8
