I am starting to research getting my CDL A.

I don't need to work full time and would prefer not to.

Is it possible to set something up where after you get the OK to go solo, you spend 2-3 weeks out, and then 2 full weeks at home.

Do you think any trucking companies would do this for a company driver?

If I do decide to get my class A license I am planning on going to Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville.

    I am in Knoxville, TN
    Clean record, no arrests
    Clean MVR
    Would pass any drug test.

Would most likely have to be a company that slip seats their trucks. 2 weeks of down revenue per every two to three weeks out on a truck is not profitable.

It's possible, but not likely for a company driver. No offense meant, but if you don't want to drive, you shouldn't even get started down this path.

Thats exactly what i did. But thats because i started out with a junk 1099 mickey mouse outfit. Nobody wanted to work there so i had him by the balls and called all the shots. The downside to that company was everything else. In general you can expect 1 day off for every week out.

Roehl has something called a home time plus fleet. You'll have the option to Run 4 days out/3 home, 7 out/7 home, 14 out/7home, etc... There's many different options in this program.

CTI is a company headquartered in Indiana, they have terminals in MO, TX, and AZ I think, they may have more. Could be worth checking out if there's one near you they'll run you part-time.

I also think Averitt may have an option similar to Roehl's but I can't be sure on that one.

Is slip seating common? (Slip seating is when they change out the drivers?)

I wasn't expecting the truck to sit for 2 weeks.

For the length of time you want to be home slip seating is the standard.

No, slip seating is not common. There are some companies that do it, but not a lot in the larger scope of our industry. So, you're comfortable switching all your stuff in and out of a truck every two weeks?

Who's being lazy? I own my truck and work for myself LOL. Several years ago I entertained hauling chips. The company slip seats. I checked out their trucks, between the lack of being cleaned and the nasty butt crack smell on the driver seat, I decided to pass.
