I am in the market for a new one ton dually. I am not going to be hot shotting rather I will be hauling my own equipment on a tandem dual trailer. I drive about 30k miles a year with probably 20k of that towing. The majority of the loads are light around 10k (not including trailer weight) but I do have a 17k backhoe I want to be able to move around locally on ocassion.
I figured who better to ask than you guys who do this stuff on a daily basis.
It seems the ram is on top with rated capacity but I really have my eyes on a Chevy 3500 DRW with the duramax. Is it up to these kinds of loads or do I need the ram? I figure trailer will weigh 6k so with backhoe and trailer I will be at 23k gross load on ocassion. The equipment I haul most frequently and farther away is much lighter - around 16k gross load.
Need advice on a one ton dually

I put over 750,000 miles on my 99 3/4 ton dodge Cummins. I would never own a truck with a v8 diesel in it. Specially not a power joke ford but that's just me.

Any of new trucks will do the job for you. You are not pulling a lot. All of them have their pro's and con's. Heck I pull every day have have 600,000 on my 2000 power joke.

Id rather Ram it,than Stroke it!

All I can say is stay away from Fords from the early 2000's. The husband's was hauling and we ended up having to rebuild the transmission twice in 1 year's time. Not worth the headache.

Wow, really great informative information you give.

Chevy's are the best.
Furds and Dodge are for penny pinchers..junk. -
Duramax has been improved year by year since 2001 and has remained a 6.6 liter motor with a proven durability. There is one locally with over 900,000mi on it, it's a 2005 truck. Simply crazy.
Both Ford and Dodge have changed their motors since then. At least dodge has kept the Cummins brand but it has had some major changes over the years and went from a 5.9 to a 6.7 liter motor.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
