With the key lock, heat the key with a cigarette lighter.
Heat transfers real fast from the key to the lock.

This is where keyless entry shines. Heating the key with a lighter like Chinatown says works good but in extreme cold lock de-icer in an aerosol can is about the only way I've found. I keep a propane torch handy for my cabinet latches and other things like that.

    remote locks.

never had my key freeze, but the door handle has a few times.

i'll take that minor inconvenience over cali, the dirty air. and 50 millions dogs clogging the freeway every day. ANYTIME.

Yeah screw Cali. #### anti American state. I used to have my locks freeze on my old mustang alot.. Wd40 as suggested earlier in the locks prevents it.

Apparently you are like many people have never been to northern California where the rivers are some of the best in the country the redwoods stand 300 ft tall, the air is as clean as it gets anywhere in the world and if my redneck cousins heard you call them anti American you should be ready to throw down. In the words of hank William jr.
" We're from North California and South Alabama and little towns all around this land and we can skin a buck and run a trotline" and a country boy can survive"

Just don't use fluid film. I can attest that it does not work for that purpose.

Had a frozen padlock in -10degree weather once and couldn't get it to break free for anything. Tried de-icer, wd40, heating it up... the receiver decided to saw the lock in two with an electric grinder.

As they went in to get the grinder and drop cord I tried a little can of adhesive remover I keep in my tool box, it worked like a charm.
