That wouldn't work with Swift;they have sound monitoring inside the trucks.

You know what I dont understand about this bs with the cameras and sound monitoring? What about a CB? You trying to tell me now you can't operate a CB to warn drivers of a hazard on the road before they hit it? Say Wyoming in the winter when theres a pile up every year, it sure would be nice to know hey guys slow down give more space theres a huge pile up.

But it seems if you cant even use bluetooth hands free safely how can you grab a CB?

This is why you get two different phone companies you give them the crappy one with no service anywhere cheap, example metro pcs. And you get Verizon etc on another account. Doesn't have to be through your name wife or friends etc.

You're also right they're highly strict on cellphones and they will ask you to get them phone records and they will match the times with your driving time.

Wal Marts first year average for new drivers is $82,500.00 on a 5.5 day work week. 34 hour reset's at home, and it is all "no touch" with stock options and benefits.

As much as I hate to admit it, that does sound pretty enticing. Well, except the part about sleeping in the truck and being away from home, for me anyway. Sounds like one of the better otr gigs out there if you were gonna do otr.

No cameras in walmart trucks, you can use your phone.... hands free, 1 hour per 11 drive, 10 minutes per call. You are largely left alone as a driver, unless you screw up.

My buddy got on by doing Christmas seasonal and proving his worth and they allowed him to stay on afterward. They ran him ragged, though. Constantly on call, never knowing when to sleep. He felt like giving up several times, but stuck with it and is starting to reap the rewards. Now he has a regular start time and run. He told me they need drivers bad enough (here, at least) that you don't have to do the seasonal thing first. Tons of new Amazon business they can't keep up with. And no, you don't have to do sort or package truck delivery first. Class A CDL with doubles puts you to the front of the line.

The problem is they will write you up for anything, and the union isn't "there to protect your job". They mainly just exist to negotiate the contract. If you screw up enough on even minor things, you are gone. Examples of things they are picky about:

    1. No spinning landing gear cranks; you have to hold the handle (although I see some drivers cheating around town).
    2. Seatbelt must be on at all times the truck is moving (even during drop/hooks, in the yard truck, etc.).
    3. Must take keys with you any time you step out of the truck (he got warned for that one).
    4. Appearance. Gotta be squeaky clean. No beards; shave every day.

In that sense, they are very miliary-like. If you can deal that type of stuff, go for it. You will be set for life. Those drivers have lifestyles well beyond most truck drivers with very nice houses and plenty of toys. Also, they retire with full pensions (and sweet 401ks if they are smart), something that hardly exists at any other job in this day and age.

Either company is good, nice money. Deal with the standards set by both or be Johnny rebel and drive somewhere else.
