Today started my 3rd week so hopefully I have only 3 or 4 to go. I DO NOT want to be here for months on end like alot of the guys here. I'm only averaging 2-3 reps in the truck a day as it is and I'm making sure that I make every manuever count . I hope your school isn't as overcrowded as mine. I leave the house at 4:45 am and don't get home until 6 pm. All for maybe 20 minutes of actual seat time. Oh well, it's only temporary I suppose.
I'm a potential new guy, interested in Schneider...

I walked in to S&S in Bellmawr yesterday and there were maybe six people in the yard. There was one in the classroom and it was his first day. The instructor teaching him took time to talk to me. Not sure what it looks like there on a weekday, but was planning to go back tomorrow.
I have an interview at a hotel this afternoon, but they already told me what they can pay me, and their number doesn't get it done. I'm pretty much only going on the interview because I worked with the guy in Atlantic City when I first started out. -
Cb is easy. You have a stand on the dashboard and the power poker and antenna cable is right behind it. The biggest inverter you can carry is a 300 watt plug in type. You aren't allowed to use anything that directly wires to the battery. My cascades has a ridiculous amount of plugs so you shouldn't have an issue.
SNI doesn't allow weapons in their trucks. No firearms and blades can't be longer than 4 inches(might be 3, not sure).
I've never had an issue anywhere. But I park smart and watch my surroundings......plus I look mean as he'll lol.
Schneiders physical test is pretty thorough. They will be testing your mobility as well. You're going to have to squat and waddle a certain way to show you can get underneath trailers. Some guys can't do it and fail. A lot of the other fail on the heart tests. It's easy stuff, but it does get your heart rate up and if you're really out of shape/and or weak, it can nip you.
Tankwork is fun, but boring as he'll at the same time. But put a year or two in with no accidents or tickets and watch your opportunities explore. Tank work drives out the truck drivers and you're left with professionals and the customers treat you a lot better too.
Schneiders 'up to' is complete BS. Don't even look at it. That is their absolute top wage added to your sign on bonus added to all 4 quarterly safety bonuses. A year ago they tried to advertise 'up to' 81k and were IMMEDIATELY called out by the industry and their own driver in such an uproar that the head of the bull division had to state how they came up with that figure and then a few weeks later it was quietly dropped to 71k(which is still bs)PitchforkedPineapple Thanks this. -
CB's plug in to a prewired plate on the dash. No need for an antenna. I use a Iceless cooler and that works fine and plugs into a cigarette lighter outlet. Knives are okay but guns are not. That's a federal law and a Schneider law. They are looking at changing that but for now you cannot "legally" carry a firearm in a semi. There are good power strips that plug into cigarette lighters that can power phones, computers and I have a TV plugged into one. All truck stops have microwaves so no real need for one of those.

When they say modifications they mean like drilling inside or out or direct battery hookup stuff.

You might want to recheck that 'federal' law again, warhippy.

Riddle me this, Batman:
Called SNI recruiting yesterday after I left the hotel interview. Three positions I'm interested in, and recruiter says that one is not available...but I am looking at it on the website.
Also, can I trust the phone center recruiting when they state the 'expected first year' number, or is that number based on hitting impossible performance targets or something like that? -
how much are they saying you will make?
-
The recruiter I met with in person at a hotel in central jersey said that tanker was pretty much unavailable when the people at corporate said it is. Get your application in for any position and you can fine tune it with the recruiter assigned to you as you progress. I got Kayla and she has been excellent with me and doesn't keep me waiting long for a response when I call or send an email. No matter what position you initially apply for, you will have to go through the same process anyway. I don't think schneiderjobs.com lists everything that is available anyway. That's at least what I am seeing now.

First year OTR tanker .41/mile for expected total first year of $55,500. I have three other listings on that page of notes and they are all lower: regional tank is same CPM but $48k (different home time structure, run from Maine to NC with chance to run through the house 1-2x/wk and home for resets), dry van on Intl Paper and Lowe's dedicated were both lower than that. Also said that 9 of 10 loads do not cross the Mississippi River.
I'm waiting on the wonderful state of Delaware to tell me if they are paying or not. After that, it's likely still a go even if I pay out of pocket because the mission in life is to keep the wife home. She wants to be CEO of the house, fine...but I'll need to be gone two weeks at a time for that to happen.
Side question: what are the different accessorial pays and should I be concerned about what percentage of total compensation they said that those make up?Last edited: Oct 27, 2015
