Yes, 0+0=0. But 2-1>0, and 1-2<0. The issue is the terms.

People choose to operate under leases. It could be that all of them are stupid and making big mistakes. More likely, leases are filling a niche that allows an intermediate ground between being a company driver and an owner operator with own authority, and some folks find that intermediate ground attractive. Whether it is or is not attractive depends on the terms. The reason I made the original post is because I'd like to see some real terms, as that is what matters. ... I understand the reluctance of folks to get specific about their lease terms. I'm just trying to get picture of what typical terms look like. By terms, I mean simply revenues and costs, like a company Profit and Loss statement.

For me it's simple. You can't put a price on freedom...and sure, freedom isn't free, in fact, it's quite expensive. Like @lots of character I smile every time I look at the title to my truck with MY NAME on iT. One thing to also consider...he and I both own classic trucks...they don't depreciate the same way these new Aero Plastic pieces of s### do. In fact...I have a buddy who is an O/O with a 1977 Pete 359. The truck has over 7 million miles on it. He has his own shop...and employees mechs that work on his truck and others in his fleet...that truck this year was appraised by insurance at $77,000. Older trucks hold there value if you take care of them...so these types of questions/variables don't apply to all who own. I saved and paid in full for my Pete 379. No interest was paid over the course of say five years...no bank financed my purchase exct. These types of questions sometimes strike the nerve of some of us independents, and well, stereotypical replies are the result. I do applaud your interest in gathering facts/showing variables, but I am not interested.

I have nothing against operating or running under a lease. If you own the truck what im against is lease purchase. Everyday here you wil see people say I dont have credit to buy a truck! Ok then you shouldnt be buying a truck! Oh but you dont understand I had this issue got screwed here its not my fault etc etc etc. A couple months later the post im broke company screwed me not my fault etc etc etc. Its same every time and 3 months later they got a thread going with a great new mega lease purchase and its gonna work awesome. Well two months later theres a new post oh por me I got so screwed

This is where YOU need to figure out what you want to pull, where you want to run and how often you want to be home. YOU need to make the phone calls, do the research and crunch the numbers in a spreadsheet.

The forum is best for finding out what the company is like as in how they treat drivers, how they operate, the positives and the negatives.

Terms of how each of us operates and our gross and net figures varies wildly. The differences between guys like Straight Stacks operating under his own numbers IIRC, a Schneider IC choice driver on % doing D&H short runs and home every weekend, A DART L/O on mileage pay, a container hauler with a beat up paid for truck home every night, a heavy hauler and a special commodities pad wrap van driver that will stay out 3-6 weeks at a time, takes a week or 2 off when he gets home and only averages 1800 miles a week are so different it ain't funny and most of us doesn't want the others job.

There are some drivers like myself here that just need to make a few extra $$$ a month to cover what our pensions don't, give us a little play money or just work to stay active. Others here couldn't survive on less than $100k a year net.
