I agree, planning to leave before you even really get started with TransAm is not a great way to go. However, I used to but no longer recommend drivers start with TransAm in the first place. My advice is, find another place to start, unless you have a specific situation: like a poor work, driving or criminal history. If you do start with TransAm, don't stay too long (as I did), start planning your next move as soon as you get the minimum required experience.
I agree, have a GREAT attitude in what you do. Have a winning attitude. Just don't expend that attitude trying to make the TransAm system work for you. I came to TransAm with a fantastic attitude. I was promptly assigned to train and live in a truck with an ex-con who did part of his time in jail due to a "hate crime sentence enhancement", the guy was a nightmare, challenged me and others to fight during my training. I did unpaid travel and waiting to get my first truck, others spent days unpaid traveling doing a recovery, saving TransAm thousands of dollars so they could go get a truck, to have the privilege of earning 30 cpm. Unpaid detention, layover, breakdown, unfair swaps, etc. are all part of the TransAm system. I was god smacked by some of the things TransAm expected from me, unpaid as a new company driver, right from the start.
I got sick of complaining about it here, others got sick of listening to it. Reading Rednecks posts tells me he came in with a very good attitude. Wanting to learn about the company, wanting to meet drivers, see their trucks, get to know what he could before starting, doing his homework. You NEED to have a very good and positive attitude to get the basics with TransAm. Consider it an extension of your CDL training and move on.gntorres61, dennisroc and jdmredneck33 Thank this. -

Glad I found this forum..was considering calling TA but all I have read..no way. Sounds like a lot of puddle jump loads.

As I have written before, when things are good at TransAm, they are very good. They actually have a lot of very good loads going from the Midwest to all over the place. They have good timelines to make the runs.
The problem is you can not count on running straight forward runs like that as a company driver. I would often run a nice long run from southern Kansas to the Northeast, running nice toll roads. However, after I made my delivery, I could often get stuck with a swap, sometimes back-to-back swaps that would keep me, almost like a local Northeast driver making, Northeast deliveries for lease drivers who wanted to cut and run. Like a Northeast local driver but only making a few dollars a day on short swap miles.jdmredneck33 Thanks this. -
