Advice for six months exp.

Hello,

In late 2013 I used my savings to attend a cdl training program and obtained my cdl in mid December. In March of 2014 I was hired for a local driver job for food grade tanker. Approximately six months later I made the decision to leave the company.

A little over one year later and I am now ready to continue this journey. I have about a three year period I plan on driving and would like to make a good decision as to which carrier to potentially join. In my particular area there is quite a bit of oil field related trucking, although it seems to have slowed down considerably after my one year hiatus.

I plan on going with an over the road company in this pursuit. One of the primary reasons is to gain experience that would be next to impossible with a local job. I would like to maximize my earning potential in this time so my best case scenario is finding a smaller carrier such as my first company that does otr instead of local. However, that first position took time, effort, and patience to find and at this point I have very little time to follow the same path that landed me the first.

One related question I hope I may have answered is: Will I be eligible for hire with an expired medical card although my license is still current until 2017. I'd rather like to avoid paying for a physical out of pocket when it seems the company will provide me one at their expense. Am I misguided in this line of thought?

Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can make an informed decision against this time constraint I am facing.

I spoke with Motor Vehicles CDL division here in NM and my Class A is downgraded until I fax them a new medical. I have until my license expires before it is no longer a valid class A.
